Recently awarded the accolade of "Best Tea & Cakes in Brighton" (Brighton Source Magazine), Blackbird Tea Rooms with its quintessentially English traditional style, has become the favourite retreat of lovers of good old fashioned quality and service. In addition to our traditional tea and cakes we also have a wide selection great breakfast and lunch dishes (see website for menu). We are very busy all day both Saturday & Sunday and therefore are unable to take reservations for the weekends (sorry).

It was like stepping back into an episode of Dad's Army.an old-fashioned tea room with a radio playing hot club De Paris and Peter Dawson banging on about the Mandalay one-way system. Something like that anyway. Service is excellent by appropriately dressed waitresses, the decor seemed authentic to me. And the scones, jam and cream,a healthy mid-afternoon interlude, were absolutely... More

We had a breakfast here, which was a lovely change from an ordinary fry up. Particularly good ingredients (bacon, ketchup, mushrooms etc.) and really nice tea. Thanks, we will be returning.

We had to kill an hour in the centre of town so decided on the Blackbird where I had been before but never for lunch- although I had had their superb afternoon tea before. We all chose the Greedy Sandwich and tea and it was superb! The bread was wonderful and the sausage bacon cheese etc where first class. We... More

Brighton is a town full of cafes and tea rooms and yet one stands out from the crowd... The Blackbird Tea Rooms in Ship Street. A classic English Tea Room with a charm of the old days and yet the service one still expects today. The staff, neatly kitted out in traditional black with white aprons, are friendly, efficient and... More

Found this place while exploring Brighton and stopped for tea and cake. Cake slices are amazing, service was brilliant and price was very reasonable. If exploring the lanes stop here for refreshment and avoid the big chains. Would definitely visit again.

A small and busy Tea room in The Lanes area on Ship street. its doscreet looking, so you can easily miss it, but its very popular, and usually full. we managed to get a lovely table upstairs by the window, with view of the busy street outside. The service is excellent, with very polite and courteous staff. The tea was... More

It was quite busy when we went and we ended up waiting for about 20-30 mins for a table but as a hopeless Brit who has never been to a tea rooms before, we decided to wait it out. It was a lovely idea however where our table was located meant we were right next to the door with people... More
