Independent and proud of it

I use the Hove branch regularly, especially if I'm meeting someone at that end of town or need a sit down and revitalising. Ironically, I wouldn't rave about the coffee (probably a matter of personal taste) but I would about the all round ambience. The service is attentive and friendly, there's... read more

During a wonderful morning I drank a flat whie and unfortunately it was burned. I love coffee and I can recognize the foam, the tasty, etc... My classic flat whie was so and so inasmuch the coffee was burned and the iced flat white was very sweet but nice. I appreciated the atmosphere of this coffee shop, young and fresh,... More

Granted it is a small space which makes it look very busy most of the time, but it is popular given the quality of the coffee and service. Oredring a special filter coffee does take some time as well (experimenting with their Ecuadorian blend) but no longer than it would at home so I can't really fault them for the... More

This is always busy and the coffee is ordered and then delivered to you. Free water is always good. The coffee is always strong and with flavour. Espresso shows off the blends well. The breakfast toasties are a little tough going though. The bread is artisan, but not the best toasted. fillings good. Staff always very polite and efficient.

I am usually a bit fan of small batch but today has completely changed my mind! I asked for three large iced flat whites I was charged £3.80 for each witch is what I would expect to pay for a large. However when I revived then they were no bigger than 200ml less than half the size than a frapachino... More

The coffee is very good, well made, although service was slow - not up to the rapid delivery of the chains. The ambience of the cafe is pleasant. Dark coffee colours contrast light coloured furniture and there are odd and interesting coffee brewing apparati around the bar. Any food on offer was extremely limited. In the morning, there were just... More

We only went for a drink and a bite. We had a mushroom pastry which was very tasty and my friend's coffee was excellent. The service was, in honesty, a bit slow (my tea arrived quite a bit after the coffee) but we had nowhere to be so on this occasion, it didn't bother us. The toilets though are fab.... More

OK, so it's not Melbourne but Small Batch does it's best to serve up great coffee, along with some excellent snacks. On our last visit, I was very tempted to sign up to their monthly mail order coffee bean drop, the coffee is that good. The vibe is relaxed, could do with a little soft seating but all in all... Disappointed with baristas' standards. She put chocolate on my cappuccino (I asked for none) and then wanted to scrape the chocolate off and top the cup up. Not what I would expect from a company so serious about coffee. She did however make another one (which was good) when asked. This was the Brighton station stall this morning.

Being a cafeine-addict, I can't really go without coffee, and Small Batch really helps taking care of that. The staff is (almost) always very nice, even though they are busy as hell, and their coffee is incredible. I would recommend turning the volume of the music down sometimes, as it gets pretty loud when the place is crowded, but the... More
