8 Years ago when Dawn and I were working in Dubai and she was expecting Stanley, we decided it was time to settle down and shed the expat lifestyle. After working as a chef for over a period of 20 years overseas, gaining experience and knowledge in a range of eclectic cuisines in world class hotels and restaurants with the latter years spent leading kitchen brigades, I felt it was time to "go it alone". Having both traveled to India on numerous occasions with a shared passion for it's food and culture as well as an inspirational stint at 'The Cinnamon Club' and there being a big Indian influence in the kitchens in Dubai which I also embraced, the decision for our future restaurant to be Indian felt very natural to us both and so The Chilli Pickle was born. The last time I worked in Brighton 28 years ago was as a silver service banquet waiter at the Metropole Hotel whilst studying catering at Brighton Tech (now City College). Dawn has always loved Brighton from regular visits whilst living in London and I've always had a soft spot for Brighton and the fact we were doing something quite different we knew it was the perfect place to start. After searching for the right property for nearly a year we found a spot in the cobbled lanes amongst the jewellery and antique shops in Meeting House Lane. The space was perfect. 50 Covers with a real bistro feel to it and a functional but small kitchen space. With an initial slow start The Chilli Pickle gradually grew through word of mouth and the support of our now regular clientele. As we got busier and gained feedback from diners we knew we were on the right track and so our confidence grew and our style became more clearly defined. After two and a half years at Meeting House Lane an opportunity came our way that we felt we could not refuse... A move to the restaurant space at myhotel Brighton. We knew this was a big step for us, but believed we had something special in The Chilli Pickle and had the passion and drive to continue to make this work along with the constant support of our original core team as well as some new additions. After 4 years in our new venue we have gone from strength to strength. The restaurant has grown in reputation nationally as well as locally with numerous awards and most importantly we continue to welcome our regulars back and enjoy meeting new customers. We also provide The Chilli Pickle Canteen - a delivery service offering a unique experience of in-home Indian dining. Bespoke boxed Grand Thalis, Railways Trays & Biryani Sets all inspired by our travels to India. We are very proud of what we have achieved and are excited about the future. We will retain our standards all the way with attention to detail, consistency and a love for what we do. Alun Sperring Chef/Director

No way to complain anything!!

I loved from starters to desert! I have been to many indian places, as an indian food lover, but here is amazing, not a large menu, simple but very special food, you can taste every different flavour ! I will definitely come back, even for just desert ;)

Went here on the back of good trip advisor reviews and was not disappointed. The place was fully booked but the very helpful manager found me a table. The pompadom and pickle were not the usual mix, instead I was treated to a delightful selection including chilli jam, pineapple pickle, onion and lemon. My main was a tandoori dish of... More

Lovely meeting place for lunch. I do find it a bit overcrowded and noisy in the evenings. Good food. Menu is a bit complicated and it all needed to be explained however good tasty food. It did take a long time for the orders to arrive though.

This restaurant is fab, from the colourful decor, well thought out tables and seating area to the friendly but not 'in your face' staff, to the most tasty & delicious authentic Indian food....there is some thing for everyone, menus are full of great dishes, street food, with an array of fab spices, clearly marked so you know how 'hot' each... Went here with a friend for a dinner recently and I must say one thing first - the ambience is amazing! Going on to the food, the starters were delicious as were the main courses. We were too full to try any desserts. The rose lassi is a must have! The only let down was the nimbu pani (lemon water)... More

I am a coeliac and I visited this restaurant today. My family enquired foor me and we were assured the popadoms were gluten free; after I'd eaten some, I was told they were fried in the same oil as other gluten containing food. I asked the manager politely for an explaination and I was told that all food is prepared... More

Friends had recommended The Chilli Pickle and we were not disappointed. If you are expecting the same old, same old, then go to a same old restaurant. This is different, tasty and very good quality. We booked for Sunday lunch during the festival and it was a good job we did because after a while the place was packed. Service... More

I organised a 'girls night' at Chilli pickle for me and six friends. It was a great night and the service, the food quality and general atmosphere at Chilli was as good as ever. However, I was disappointed with the menu. I've been going to Chilli since it first opened in 'The Lanes' in central Brighton and last went in... More

With an very attractive exterior, this central place "invites us" to go inside! I really enjoy places with fancy decoration and beautiful furniture. But the most interesting thing is the friendly and helpuful staff. They are prepared to help us and explain the dishes and advise us about the portions sizes. Last, but not least: the amazing food! Very fresh,... More
