Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes, BrightonWe are a unique bar à vin & restaurant with a passion for great food & wine. We have put a great deal of time & love into selecting our wines. At Plateau you can discover interesting & affordable wines that you are unlikely to see on other local wine lists. Our selection is mostly natural with some biodynamic & organic examples. We have sourced wines from local Sussex producers to renowned names & newcomers. To soak up the wine we serve ‘bites’, small dishes perfect to share or great as a starter. Follow your ‘bites’ with a ‘plateau’ to share or a 'plat' & that’s our dinner experience… although don’t forget dessert! Our chefs source organic, fresh, local produce as much as possible.Did we mention the cocktails? They’re probably the best in town & although we don’t serve Carlsberg we do serve some pretty imaginative beers from around the world. We have some top quality spirits, including some rare rum, whisky & cognac…and I almost forgot, keep an eye out for the ‘cocktail de la semaine’ & ‘beer of the moment’.There is no set way to visit Plateau, you can match the wine to the food or the food to the wine. Pop in just for a drink, a few bites or a three-course meal – the idea is that you do whatever suits you.

Cosy Little Wine Bar

Lovely atmopshere and great staff in a unique and cosy place. Amazaing location and great furniture. Highly recommended for a nice wine. However, a bit pricy

Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at our meal on Tuesday. Tried the biodynamic red tragolargo Alicante 2013. Really liked the wine so I looked at their website where you can buy a case for around £50.00. The restaurant charged £28 per bottle which by most standards is really overcharging!!! I know restaurants have a big mark up but why... More

One of my favourite places in Brighton, so many great things about this bistro. Great cocktails and cool zinc bar, great wine selection, great food, the sharing 'plateaus' are outstanding, the music is cool and varied, and the staff are all welcoming and engaging. We celebrated my birthday here and had Xmas office party, as well as the odd lunch... More

The service was faultless, lovely atmosphere and food that definitely lives up to the hype - pricy but definitely worth it as this is the kind of food that you can't just make at home. Really great quality, will definitely go again.

Keen to eat something other than the usual steak, fries, bread and pastry most restaurants seem to dish up lately, Plateau was exactly what I was looking for. I was a bit put off by a couple of the TA reviews, but was so glad I decided to keep an open mind. The two waitresses were genuinely cheerful and attentive.... More

I only have good things to say about this place, one of our favourites in town. Food is really good and people are very, very nice and friendly. Such a great place! Well done!

This is the best food I have ever eaten. We ordered the terrine to start and a bottle of Bran to share and both were exquisite. For main we went for the meat platter and a side of chips. Highly recommend both - the chips were quite amazing.

The sun came out so we headed for the Coast and enjoyed an unfailingly delicious meal and wine at Plateau in Bartholomews, Ship St, Brighton. Relaxed ambience, fantastic service and the freshest fish - with time to have a lovely catch up with my husband! Exceeded expectations yet again. Enjoy this special place.

I'm lucky enough to eat out a lot, but was intrigued by the write ups on this restaurant, plus the fact that our B&B recommended it. We could only get a 9pm seating but as this is centrally located there are plenty of bars around to visit pre dinner. We had scallops & duck hearts to start. My scallops were... More

Birthday meal, last minute recommendation, drawn in by really unusual menu and mesmerising vibe. Octopus carpaccio, pig's head and kimchi - a match made in heaven. Doesn't take itself too seriously but fine dining as it should be. Food, ambiance and staff all complement each other. Two ways you can go on a sharing platter are meat and fish. We... More
