Description: Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes, BrightonWe are a unique bar à vin & restaurant with a passion for great food & wine. We have put a great deal of time & love into selecting our wines. At Plateau you can discover interesting & affordable wines that you are unlikely to see on other local wine lists. Our selection is mostly natural with some biodynamic & organic examples. We have sourced wines from local Sussex producers to renowned names & newcomers. To soak up the wine we serve ‘bites’, small dishes perfect to share or great as a starter. Follow your ‘bites’ with a ‘plateau’ to share or a 'plat' & that’s our dinner experience… although don’t forget dessert! Our chefs source organic, fresh, local produce as much as possible.Did we mention the cocktails? They’re probably the best in town & although we don’t serve Carlsberg we do serve some pretty imaginative beers from around the world. We have some top quality spirits, including some rare rum, whisky & cognac…and I almost forgot, keep an eye out for the ‘cocktail de la semaine’ & ‘beer of the moment’.There is no set way to visit Plateau, you can match the wine to the food or the food to the wine. Pop in just for a drink, a few bites or a three-course meal – the idea is that you do whatever suits you.

Plateau is great for meals with couples or friends. It has a great atmosphere at night with nice mood lighting, twinkly lights and a vibrant bar. You can opt for a larger main meal or you can have one of the nice platters to share. I had the best desert ever here - banana with salted caramel ice cream with... More

I often wine and dine in this centrally located bar / restaurant. The staff are excellent, it is wonderfully French but caters for vegetarians without compromising on the quality. Great selection of wine. It is more expensive than the mediocre chain restaurants which surround it but very good value for the quality.

We dined at Plateau on the weekend after having a recommendation from friends and it does not disappoint. We both ordered Steak which was absolutely delicious, my partner enjoyed his meal so much that he wanted to order it again! The staff are working non stop to keep everything flowing well, a great dining experience! We will not hesitate to... More

Plateau, once quite serviceable, has taken a nose dive. The menu is far too ambitious for the chef and the prices way exceed what should be charged for the often ill judged and sloppily prepared fare. Woe betide the customer who complains, expect a tirade of Marco Pierre White proportions from the Maître'D. If you must go, avoid the food... More

Six of us went to Plateau in March. It look unassuming but cosy from the outside. Inside the vibe was casual, the service was friendly and entertaining. I seem to remember all of the wine is organic - not a big deal in our group, but different! Anyway, the wines were fantastic and the real surprise was the food. I... More

We enjoyed delicious food and great beer. The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere lively without being overbearing. The menu was interesting and we enjoyed a fantastic vegetarian platter... Each aspect of the dish being exquisitely crafted to produce maximum flavour without competing with other dishes or being too filling. We couldn't resist trying the ox tongue as... More

Although this place is more of a cocktail bar type scene, the food served is really excellent quality and flavorsome. Steaks are perfectly cooked and homemade chips are divine too. Many starters you can simply share. Lovely unusual wines to select from with very friendly helpful staff to assist in choosing. There is a quieter upstairs section, but only open... More

This is my favourite restaurant in Brighton, I haven't been for awhile as it is quite pricey but worth every penny. The last time I went we had oysters and then the fish platter plus cocktails. The food is super tasty and staff are very friendly. The barman even made me a personalised cocktail! It's situated right in the heart... More

I went to Plateau with my sister and brother-in-law for Saturday night dinner, with this being my first time here. Upon arrival the place was busy, but we had no trouble getting the attention of the staff and were led to a table upstairs. The atmosphere downstairs definitely had more of a vibe/buzz to it and upstairs was a little... More

I am very sorry that you haven’t been completely satisfied. The selection of meat on the “plateau de viandes” changes every four to six weeks, with the seasons. The selection you had is quite fatty as composed of pork belly and lamb breast, two fatty cuts. I regret that you didn’t tell us right away, as we would have preferred... More

Visited the restaurant for dinner with friends. The food was very good and the wait staff were brilliant. They helped us choose wines all evening which were also very good. Definitely worth a visist
