Description: Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes...
Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes, BrightonWe are a unique bar à vin & restaurant with a passion for great food & wine. We have put a great deal of time & love into selecting our wines. At Plateau you can discover interesting & affordable wines that you are unlikely to see on other local wine lists. Our selection is mostly natural with some biodynamic & organic examples. We have sourced wines from local Sussex producers to renowned names & newcomers. To soak up the wine we serve ‘bites’, small dishes perfect to share or great as a starter. Follow your ‘bites’ with a ‘plateau’ to share or a 'plat' & that’s our dinner experience… although don’t forget dessert! Our chefs source organic, fresh, local produce as much as possible.Did we mention the cocktails? They’re probably the best in town & although we don’t serve Carlsberg we do serve some pretty imaginative beers from around the world. We have some top quality spirits, including some rare rum, whisky & cognac…and I almost forgot, keep an eye out for the ‘cocktail de la semaine’ & ‘beer of the moment’.There is no set way to visit Plateau, you can match the wine to the food or the food to the wine. Pop in just for a drink, a few bites or a three-course meal – the idea is that you do whatever suits you.

Coming down to Brighton for a child free week, we thought we would try an independent restaurant rather than a chain that we could visit anywhere. Despite recommendations from others we chanced upon Plateau which seemed to get good reviews on here. As the reviews were highly complementary of the food and wine we thought this was a safe bet.... We sat outside opposite the town hall. We had Camden ale and artisan bread with dukka and tapenade. We also had a very nice crisps white wine. We loved it. The staff are lovely and its in a nice location and handy for shopping. Will be back.

Plateau offers you foods and wines that you might not normally see on a menu. The produce is the star of the show, and the main elements are presented well without being messed around with unnecessarily, so you can properly experience the flavours of fresh seasonal buying. We selected a large list of their 'Bites' dishes to share (but larger... More

A simple menu that is sophisticated and always delivers. The cocktails are brilliant and the wines are all natural. The staff really know the food and drinks well, plus they are friendly and helpful. It's a must for a trip to Brighton.

Had some dishes from the 'bites' menu, delicious! Massive selection of organic and natural wines. Didn't like being asked to hurry up as they needed the table, but didn't ruin the visit and will be back again!

The most friendly, personable and outstanding restaurant you could wish for. They are unfailingly lovely: Thierry, Christian, Louise and friends make this a place to come to again and again and again. And we have... Wonderful food, delicious and distinctly unusual wines, and a menu that changes without ever disappointing. The best in Brighton? Easily. The best around? Quite possibly...

I am always amazed at how tasty the food is at Plateau and there is always something unusual on the menu. Plus the most interesting wine list in Brighton. Great place.
