Regular as clockwork

Nice little pub set back from the sea front in Kemptown. Consistently good food and nice service in an informal setting which results in surprisingly good food. It's a restaurant integrated into a pub - don't confuse this with a gastro pub or a pub that serves food

Having been taken to and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at The Ginger Pig a few weeks ago I was delighted to find that my husband had made a reservation at The Ginger Dog for my birthday. The food was delicious particularly our starters of Pigs Cheek and Goats Curd Cheese and the dessert of deconstructed lemon tart which we really didn't... More

Cute pub and restaurant, old country pub feel! Fantastic menu, the steak was AMAZING and so were the chips. Staff friendly and knowledgeable.

Apparently there is a new, passionate chef here and it shows. The food was superb. Tempura oysters with broad bean purée were a triumph and was a dish we went home to make (tempura oysters and now my new favorite starter). The sea bream with haricot beans and and chorizo was hearty and delicious. The side order of kale was... More

Food was excellent. Four of us gave the menu a good going over, pork cheek, mackerel, brill, pork again, chicken, salmon, all were brilliantly presented and attention to detail with the veg attractively served and reaching different taste buds. Service was excellent too, but what dragged it down from their rarely given five stars was the ambiance. Toilets which are always... More

My friends and I had a lovely lunch here. We were tempted in by the £12.50 2-course set menu which was excellent. The service was good, generous food portions and very tasty! On the negative side the set menu is very sparse (2 mains and 2 starters to choose from including vegitarian options ) and we had to request the... More

Not sure about the extra virgin Rapeseed oil instead of olive but everything else was a wonderful treat down gastro pub lane. Influences to us were pan-European/French Bistro style with locally sourced/English ingredients. I did however feel that some elements lacked seasoning and in some cases a good punch of the intended flavour. The best treat of the night was... More

Really liked the décor and the location nicely away from the main drag in Kemp Town. Enjoyed the food - some unusual touches but felt the ambience and other issues detracted from the positives. Service was good, but the restaurant part of the pub was more for friends meeting up for a chat rather than couples out to dinner for... More

I find that visiting a place for Sunday Roast can give an altogether different experience that at any other time and this was indeed the case here. I've reviewed the Dog previously having eaten here regularly over the last couple of years. I'll keep returning and am keen to try the bar snack menu that I'd not noticed previously. Ok,... More

As I work close to this pub (or restaurant) I decided to visit it for a drink and maybe something to eat too. Although it looks like a pub from the outside, and inside, the barmaid told me it's really a restaurant. I examined the menu, but didn't see much that was suitable, being a vegetarian, and it was expensive... More
