Description: The Thai word Sabai translates simply as relaxed, the perfect description of this Brighton gastrobar where the urban cool of London on Sea is matched to the ethnic charm of the Land of Smiles. Bringing a taste of Phukets beach bars and Bangkoks most upmarket restaurants to the UK, Sabai is all about chilling out, South East Asian style a fact which is patently clear from the silk floor cushions, cocktail menu and warm, smiling welcome. The deep red and dark wood, gold and green interior is as beautiful as Sabais freshly cooked, authentic food, MSG free and made using local ingredients where possible and imported Thai herbs and spices where essential. Because everything is made to order, special requests are welcomed.

Lovely setting, good oriental staff but English guy who served us (manager ?) was dull and rude. My partner asked if they had chow mein as he isn't familiar with Thai food and this guy rolled his eyes and abruptly said ''we are Thai not chienese''. He kept looking down at us the entire time. We should have walked out... More

Had a most enjoyable evening with family and friends at the Sabai Thai Gastro Bar. We went early evening mid week this little gem tucked away from the main road had a great atmosphere. The food, service and attention to detail from the staff was excellent and as previously mentioned by a fellow reviewer this restaurant serves a good selection... More

We should have been wary when we got a poor reception from the waitress which for a Thai restaurant is uncommon particularly after the reviews we read However after reading more this seems to be a fairly common criticism However it is the food we went for so it was a distraction when I have to comment on some aspects... Really liked Sabai. We started our evening with surprisingly good cocktails (margarita and a whisky sour - a lot of restaurants struggle to make a decent margarita but Sabai's was great) then had really good food including a stir fry with cashews and faux chicken pieces (I'm veggie, and delighted when there's something other than tofu on the menu). Friendly... More

This is a lovely little place tucked away from the main road, just on the edge of the Pavilion gardens. The main point of interest in this restaurant are the regional specials - something I've not seen before in other Thai restaurants, and a bit of a departure from the usual curry/soup choices. Starters were very good - Thai fishcakes... More

sauces were not very rich or robust. Vegetables uninspired carrots and corn -what about the thai aurbergine and the snow pea!

Situated right by the Pavilion Gardens, it has a great location. Staff were friendly and reasonably efficient. The food was spot on and less than £40 for two courses for two including drinks. Great, authentic tastes if a little on the hot side!

We were very impressed with the food here - lovely flavours and reasonable prices (although rather slow service). Just be prepared for everything to be a notch hotter than in the average UK Thai restaurant!
