Pleasant surprise

Called in with a group for some dinner. The food was fantastic and matched by excellent service. A gem of an independent eatery.

Stopped for breakfast, sitting outside on the lane. Excellent scrambled eggs, we had with smoked salmon as well. Also very good coffee! Limited breakfast menu but worked for us. Friendly staff.

Fish soup was excellent, could have eaten 2 portions! Risotto good flavour but made with ordinary rice, not risotto rice, strange. The flour in the seafood crepe tasted a little underdone? Wine was pretty poor, had a few sips of the merlot but it was the type that upsets stomach, quite acidic; vapolicello was slightly better but very thin; italian... More

We visited Il Bistro last Friday evening. We had spotted it whilst out exploring The Lanes on our afternoon arrival in Brighton. We didn't book but managed to get a table. The restaurant was busy but the waiters were very helpful & attentive. We opted for the three course set menu at £15. My starter choice was a seafood pancake... More

Lovely staff, and lovely 2x course menu for £10 however was a little basic, not a lot of people there eating, lovely little place and staff, the food just needs a little something extra…..

We arrived in Brighton for the weekend late on Friday and found this place in the Lanes area of Brighton. We had great ribeye steaks with fantastic retro peppercorn and brandy sauce. Simple menu but excellent cooking. Service was warm friendly, team are mature restaurant operators, real treat. This is what neighbourhood restaurant were and should be. Excellent!
