Considered by many to be Brightons best restaurant, backed up by its status as the highest scoring local dining room in the Good Food Guide, The Restaurant at Drakes is an elegantly stylish setting for any occasion. Subtle lighting casts moody shadows across exposed brickwork and rich colours throughout the intimate dining room while Drakes cocktail bar offers airy sea views and excellent cocktails. The kitchen team insist on the best of ingredients, fresh and seasonal, including fish bought daily from local fishing boats, to create the excellent, refined menu that has earned the restaurant two AA rosettes. Small intermit setting a little disappointing.

Small menu using local produce. Salmon and pigs trotter starters promised more than they delivered. The main courses needed to be hotter but the flavours were very good. Aspects of the service were disappointing for a restaurant that automatically takes a 12.5% service charge! The second bottle of... read more

Very limited menu and very rich food. Excellent dining but a trifle expensive and very little choice. However, for fine dining it must be one of the top restaurants in Brighton

Lovely restaurant, great staff, lovely food and also we were given some compliments from the chef in between courses. Would definitely go again.

We went here on a Saturday night during our recent visit to Brighton to find a romantic restaurant with top notch cooking. You need to book in advance for a table at the weekends, but we recommend you do. Arrive early and you can have a cocktail in the small but well stocked lounge upstairs and then descend the stairs... Taken together an unremarkable experience. The food is certainly good, but about average for the price. The emphasis on local products - especially drinks, was a positive, but the slow - as in slow, not relaxed pace, service was frustrating. The location of the dining room could be atmospheric - or cramped and hot, depending how you judge underground restaurants.... More

We went here for my 50th birthday. Overall the experience was a good one. Very good and friendly service. Very good food and outstanding deserts. One big but though was that the main course arrived almost cold. It was delicious but would have been better hot, the rest of the meal was fine. In a restaurant of this type and... More

I couldn't believe how relaxed the service was: I felt quite at home and the decor was very much to my taste. The deserts were to die for and I will certainly go again. If you are going on your birthday, mention it when booking and get a tasty surprise!

I really enjoyed my lunch at Drakes. Although I was a bit worried when we arrived (as the restaurant is located inside a hotel and the building from the outside looked a bit more like b&b), the restaurant itself is actually very nice, small and cosy. The waitress that served us was professional, smiley and not overbearing. I thought that... More

I went to the Drakes last night and have to say I had some of the best food I've ever had. We had the 3 courses which, including the little extras, was fantastic value for money. The staff and service was excellent and all in all we had a very good evening. The only down side was the main wasn't... More
