Superb lunch time dining

We stopped in late for lunch and without bother were seated and served. The 3 course lunch menu was excellent value and the quality great. We both chise the seafood chowder, with a hearty mix of fresh bites of seafood in a smooth creamy potato chowder. My main was the pan fried black sea bream... read more

Thought we would give this a try after reading reviews and weren't disappointed. Menu has something for everyone with very attentive service. Tables a bit close together for my liking if you don't want to be overheard but otherwise I was delighted with our meal. Highly recommended.

Haven't been here for 10 years . Was in Brighton for a funeral and thought we would have lunch afterwards. The staff were kind and helpful. Food excellent ( set menu) . Good wine and a free pudding! The last time I was here it had slightly faded. They have really got their act together - this is a restaurant... More

Went for a Sunday lunchtime and probably will not go again given the options in Brighton. On the plus side, the mussels were very good, the house wine was pleasant and it is a nice atmosphere there. However, most of my party were not impressed with their dishes, finding them bland and in the case of the scallops also undersized.... More

Despite being a stormy evening and booking well ahead, Englishes couldn't fit us in downstairs and we were directed to a less atmospheric upper room. Food was good, with excellent oysters and dressed crab, but the Sole meuniere was rather tasteless, only rescued by a crisp Jessi white wine. Overall enjoyable, but at £140 for two without desert or coffee,... More

One of the best places in Brighton for oysters and fish, same ownership since 1945 so they must be doing something right. Dinner with friends in December between Christmas and New Year sat in upstairs restaurant which is a bit quieter than the ground floor. Not the greatest coquilles san Jacques, too much potato, but good oysters and potted shrimp,... More

Been visiting this lovely old place for 20 plus years, always a treat, sometimes the ambience is better than the food, but often the food is excellent. It was refurbished last year, but who on earth decided to change the velvet banquettes for pink plastic seating, changing the quirky layout of the tables and getting rid of the cafe curtains, generally... Dear robin084 Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am sorry you do not like the recent refurbishment, sadly we do have to remain competitive and unfortunately we cannot please everybody. We did not make the decision lightly and on the whole the feedback has been very positive. On that point, I can assure you the... More

Our second visit to this restaurant. We ordered the tasting menu on New Years Eve. The oysters were delicious, as was the chowder and the lobster ravioli. The lemon tart was also first class and the selection of wines, top drawer. Unfortunately the paupiette of lemon sole was very bland, but the real disaster was the partridge - burnt, over... More

Dear Spookyzoo Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am very sorry to learn of your disappointing second visit, I assume your fist visit was satisfactory though. Both the Lemon sole and the partridge are very popular dishes and the chef has been informed of your comments. I am truly sorry that they were not up... More

This is located in the heart of Brighton and is a good place to have a fish meal in the evening. It's well established. Quirky atmosphere with French images adorning the walls. Good for couples or business. Good menu. Friendly staff. Go for the atmosphere.
