Having not been to Brighton for over 15 years I wasn't to clued up on where to eat while I stayed. I was after a good fish restaurant and looking at English's website it looked professional and gave me confidence in booking. We were greeted by a pleasant man dressed in smart attire, white shirt, black trousers and apron. He... More

Where the oysters are not cheap but there's a good variety of styles. A quaint and old fashioned eatery with excellent service. Friendly, professional and polite. The fish is excellent and the oysters Divine. A good selection of side dishes. Especially tasty were the roasted carrots with seeds.... highly recommended. Sadly though a small (poor) choice of desserts. Would definitely... More

My partner and I had Sunday lunch here as the set menu looked interesting and well priced. We sat side by side on padded benches to a very narrow table, therefore both of us looking straight opposite at other diners who were seated in the same way. Certainly this would not be the atmosphere I would want for an evening... More

Went here on Thursday 2nd October, a lovely warm evening backed by some quite discreet heating meant we were able to sit outside off this quaint restaurant and enjoy a pleasant atmosphere. We ate off the fixedmenu at 14.99 for 2 courses. My wife and I found this exceptional value, the food which is mainly fish and seafood, backed up... More

The atmosphere is a very-welcome, slightly old-fashioned, haven of peace; it's heavy on the crisp white linen and formal service. Our food was very good indeed (quality, presentation, garnish/extras & portion size) and what we could see at other tables was tempting too. Pricing: not cheap but not expensive, either, given the quality. Excellent and not expensive wine list. All-in-all,... More

Sunday trip in Brighton to find a good sea food restaurant...and one of best fish and chips from UK! No table available...but in UK nothing is impossible. Lunch on Bar! Just a lovely atmosphere with a fabulous bartender.. Mussels from Scotland, amazing oysters and one of..(probably the best..) fish and ships I have ever eaten... A great moment!

I have often wondered about this place when I have visited Brighton before, tucked away but always looking full - especially when the weather is fine and people sit outside. The clientele allude to a sort of elegance that sits so well along the bohemian is part of the magic that is Brighton. You almost feel like to be a... More

This restaurant had a fantastic calm atmosphere, good service and friendly staff. We chose from the three courses for £20 menu which was great value. It was great reading about the history of the place in the menu and the selection of food was good - oysters of course, lobster, caviar, and all types of seafood with a 85% fish... More

Had a good lunch but the cost was exorbitant. There are several fish and chip restaurants in Brighton, with dishes just as tasty and varied as English's, but a lot less expensive. Bankers, Barnards, Ransomes, to name just three. Definitely an up-market restaurant.

Heard that this restaurant was good, wasn't disappointed. Between us we had, scallop and chorizo fritter for starters, I had the steak pudding with the homemade chips, my friend went for the roasted cod, with a side of chips and vegetables, both had the chocolate mousse. The whole experience was faultless from start to finish. Would highly recommend this restaurant.... More
