Top grub in a proper pub

I booked a table here for dinner on a Monday night. The pub was busy with most tables full. The food and service were fantastic, I had the duck breast served with dauphinoise potatoes which was top notch, full of flavour and beautifully cooked.

Food here was good with generous portions but overpriced in my opinion. The service was average at best and the pub itself just seemed a bit tired and not very welcoming. The toilet facilities were dire. The pub dog has free run of the dining area and it was very off putting trying to constantly extricate him from underneath the... More

This pub was recommended to us by the owner of the B and B we were staying at. A nice local pub, great food - it does take a while - ours was 40mins but is worth the wait, all fresh home cooked. Very popular and you will need to book - people had to be turned away while we... More

Struggled to find a table and ended up here. Lots of warnings about feeding the dog, Pickles. What we found was a strange, but friendly ish place. Good range of food although it was announced that they had run out of vegetables by 8:30! Perfectly good bottle of wine to accompany the steak. This was good as long as you... More

Quaint traditional pub with friendly bar staff and a house dog named Pickle. The food is very affordable given the size of the portions, I challenge even the hungriest traveller to complain about the chefs generosity! A local ale is a must, try something from one of the many fine Dorset breweries.

We combined Mothering Sunday lunch with a special birthday and enjoyed a relaxed lunch for the whole family. The atmosphere was welcoming, menu extensive and food prompt and great quality and value. We ate a range of meals including enormous traditional roast pork, tasty burgers, mussels and vegetarian quiche - all were really tasty. Family and dog friendly too. The... More

The 'Mucky Duck' is one of our favourite haunts not only for its excellent well kept ales and dog-friendliness but for the incredible quality of its food. Usually vegetarian food is tacked on somewhat reluctantly and is fairly bland and tasteless - not here. The beetroot chilli was epic and their own recipe. As a recently converted vegetarian this is... More
