Good place for a few beers

Another good place in Swanage for a few beers, they have lots of space outside to sit with your drinks. The staff are polite and quick to serve. They have a pool table so a good place to have a few games whilst enjoying your drinks.

We ate here twice after doing long walks in January. We looked at some of the other local pubs but this one seemed to offer a nicer welcome, a wide selection of beers and ciders and the food was fine. It is pub grub but for that is is excellent, don't expect fine dining. Have the steak and kidney pudding.

We went to the Red Lion for Steak Friday. Two people get steak and chips and a bottle of wine for £25. My two steak-eating friends declared the steaks (sirloin) excellent, and they had difficulty eating all the chips, salad, onion rings, breaded mushrooms and peas that were on the plate with the steak. I was very happy with my... More

With, on the day we called, 53 different ciders, it was hard to decide where to start. Happy Daze and Explorer were favourite. Can't remember after that! Food looked good pub grub too.

Decent choice on menu, quick service and meals delivered quickly. Decor (like many pubs) quite tired but it has an atmosphere, helped by a few regulars. Lager selection is limited but good ciders and ales. Good food portions and home style cooking.

Visited as a family whilst on a short break in Swanage and enjoyed the warm cosy atmosphere of the Red Lion. A nice range of choices on the menu, both traditional favourites such as fish chips and peas ( chunky piece of fresh fish in thin crispy batter) and more adventurous choices such as linguine with crab, crayfish and chilli... Had lunch here after driving down for a weekend stay, both had sandwiches, cheddar with ale chutney and tuna lemon Mayo, along with a bowl of chips. So much filling in the sandwiches, really good value.

We arrived at The Red Lion after a long drive from London. The lads were pleased with the ale selection and I was amazed at the cider selection (about 50 ciders!!). We decided to have a small bite to eat and then book a table and come back later in the evening with a large group of us for dinner.... More

snug pub friendly staff and best beer in town. Great for food too if the need takes you. During festival time it gets stacked so get there early if you want a seat in the pub, but they have a large garden if the weather is good...

Having visited this pub regularly in the past, I am disappointed that since being under new management I do not enjoy spending my time here any more. Although the location is good and the beer garden is great on a lovely sunny day the service is now very poor and it has lost the good atmosphere it once had.
