Love the pub itself and the bar staff are friendly and helpful. If the sun is shining make sure you take advantage of the stunning views from the garden. Unfortunately had unimpressive ploughmans there for lunch a couple of weeks ago. Bread was one of those par-cooked frozen white affairs and I was promised Wiltshire ham which fell way below... More

The Mitre offers decent pub food, good beer, reasonable wines, and an excellent setting. It is directly on Shaftesbury High Street, but with a cleverly-constructed three-level patio at the rear giving fine views across to Melbury Beacon - blankets provided if the breeze from the south-west starts to get to you. There are daily specials to supplement the regular menu... More

Place and service are really nice, views are lovely. Food is average pub food and real ale selection is not very large.

Not the cheapest pub in the town, but with a view top the South of Shaftesbury that must rank as one of the best in Dorset. Food is good for a pub but again not the cheapest, Best part of £10 for a burger with a few chips chucked in I thing is pricey. But very good burger though!

We recently visited the Mitre when on a week away in Dorset. Out on the back decking the views are beautiful on a sunny day, but inside it is warm and cosy. There is a wide variety and ciders, wines and beers and although not huge the menu had more than enough options. I had the beef Stroganoff of of... More

The Mitre has always been a haven for lovers of good beer. The takeover/swap with Youngs of Wandsworth only improved that. The food is good, imaginative, but not fancy. It's 'gastropub' stuff, well-cooked and served promptly. However, to experience the Mitre, at its best, you should go on a sunny day and sit out on the well-designed, tiered terrace and... More

Ate here the other Sunday, like other reviewers it appeared to be the only place open in the town on a Sunday afternoon (all other tea rooms closed). I had a regular burger and my wife a pork belly burger. Mine was great but the pork belly / burger was a bit of a strange combo and we won't order... More

We were desperate for food when passing through Shaftesbury at 4pm on a Sunday. The tea room was closed. The restaurant/cafe near the council offices had just closed. But the Mitre was a beacon of activity and had a food sign still outside. Had they left it out by mistake or was it still serving? We dashed in, desperately hoping... More

Lovely friendly staff, great value and wonderful view. If you went there a couple of years ago and were disappointed, go back and give it another chance!

We visit Shaftesbury alot and the last time we ate here it was just average, but this time it was a massive improvement, the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us, the food was much better, I highly recommend the pork belly burger. The bread in the sandwich wasn't crusty as advertised but more on the turn... More
