Dorset Apple Cake to die for!

Lovely homely restaurant overlooking the famous Gold Hill, we only tried the coffee and cake but there is a varied menu to choose from.

Sat out the front with my girlfriend and our 3 dogs. The view down Gold Hill is lovely. The food was delicious my girlfriend had the chicken ham and mushroom pie with mixed veg and baked potato and I had an off menu panini. We still have a few days left in Shaftesbury and will certainly be returning.

Afternoon tea, lunch and dinner are so tasty. Sometimes the place could be so busy you just have to wait for your turn.

Our favourite lunch venue in Shaftesbury. The food is freshly prepared and so reasonably priced - excellent value. It is a good idea to reserve a table as it always seems to be busy. Try and get one with a view of 'Hovis' hill and the glorious countryside beyond. It was near here that they filmed scenes of the 1960's... More

Really liked the Salt Cellar as a late afternoon tea with really delicious cakes. The dorset apple cake was superb. My wife had another cake that was equally delicious. Service was excellent and very friendly.

This is a super little café: very popular with locals as somewhere to cogitate over the paper or to chat with friends. There's table service and quite a wide range of snacks on offer. It's rarely quiet except towards closing time, so you need to be able to zone out if you want to be alone with a quiet coffee.... More

Standing squarely at the top of the beautiful and ancient Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, this café is a must for sightseers. We sampled the pecan pie and the Dorset apple cake, both of which were generous slices of deliciousness! The coffee was very good, with a welcome 'hit', not weak and wishy-washy like some places serve. I would go there every... More

Only just found out that Gold Hill was the one used in the Hovis advert and you can see why when you view it from this gem of a restaurant!

We've been visiting this restaurant for about 6 years. It's always busy and tables are always limited especially on a Sunday at 1pm. However it's getting so you can never get a table, as they're all reserved for locals. So don't bother if you haven't booked. If you do get a table they're crowded up against other tables and if...
