We adore the Salt Cellar. We visit regularly having lived in the area for 8 years. We have never had a bad meal here, the staff are very friendly and the food comes out in super quick time. The food offers excellent value for money, I don't know anywhere else locally where you can get such brilliant food at their... More

The Sal Cellar has a great location and was the perfect spot to rest our feet after climbing gold hill, wow it was steep!! A must visit!

Have just returned from having lunch here and, after my wife had carried a high chair across the width of the whole restaurant to be able to sit at a table outside, she was told by a very rude waitress that we couldn't take it outside as it was a health and safety issue!! Although the food was quite nice,... More

The food here is always good - think melted cheese and roasted vegetable sandwiches, baked potatoes that kind of thing. The view is spectacular if you can sit outside you should definitely do that. The service is quite slow and not particularly friendly. Been here many times but mostly for the view.

we used to go here every weekend for something to eat.sad to say the quality has gone downhill.obviously they have a beautiful setting at the top of gold hill so are a magnet for visitors to pop in.however, this is also popular with us locals.

Nice cafe at top of Golds hill with good views down the hill and across the countryside. Can eat in or outside. Fairly priced. Next door to the museum.

We stopped by the "Salt Cellar" on our way to Dartmoor for a quick lunch and to enjoy the beautiful view over the Devon countryside. Since we weren't that hungry, we only ordered one salmon and potato pie with salad to share. The waitress was very nice and our food was already split between two plates when we got it... More

Whenever we visit Shaftesbury we always stop here for coffee and cake and tasty lunches. Good value, interesting choice, newspapers/magazines and, of course, one of the most famous views in England. Take time to visit the museum close by which has a beautiful garden, also you may be lucky and find a good bric a brac fair in the market... More

I stopped off in Shaftesbury so as to get a few shots of Gold Hill. The Salt cellar is positioned right at the top of the hill with excellent views. Lovely coffee and great lunch/brunch menu freshly prepared and cooked by chefs behind the counter. All in all an ideal place to stop for a break while visiting the hill.

Was lucky enough to enjoy lunch here recently, which was both well cooked and very tasty. The views of Gold Hill itself and the wider countryside were superb and to be frank I was expecting to see prices to match our surrounding, so imagine my surprise to find everything very reasonably priced...dare I say it even cheap! Would thoroughly recommend... More
