Classic Pub in the Dorset Countryside

This is the second time this family of four has eaten at the Spyway. Certainly there was consistency. This is good pub food. You will not be disappointed, as long as you don't expect it to be something it is not. The staff are friendly and accommodating, though the service was slower than it should... read more

The Spyway Inn was recommended to us by the owner of the cottage that we were renting locally. It is a large old building set in the rolling Dorset countryside. Whilst the building is large, the bar area and restaurant areas are small. We found eating in the restaurant area slightly claustrophobic - at the time of our visit it... More

5 of us enjoyed our Sunday lunch here. All our mains and puddings were very tasty indeed, prepared using the freshest ingredients. The range of vegetables accompanying the roasts was particularly impressive. We were glad we booked as it is popular and there is a limit on space. Landlord and staff were very welcoming.

My first visit in 15 years to the Spyway Inn at Askerswell, but it won,t be my last. It,s a little way off the main Dorchester / Bridport road but well worth the detour. This is a real pub with a restaurant, nothing too fancy on the menu but what you get is truly well cooked and my lamb chops... More

Having been eating at the Spyway for over 30 years we can highly recommend it for locals and tourists alike. The current owners are very friendly and Tim, the Manager knows many diners by name. He provides friendly and efficient service and you feel well looked after. The menu choice is good with local produce used. We had steak and... More

The Spyway was already earmarked for a weekend stay with friends last year but I shared a meal on my Auntie's 70th birthday with eight other family members. Of the ten diners, no one had any complaints on the service, food or environment. The staff were first rate and just attentive enough to gain good service without their hovering about.... More

I still remember walking into the Spyway the first time I came to visit England. Tim made such an impression. He has a knack for making everyone feel as they are the only customer there. I think it comes across because he really loves what he does. The pub is very cosy and the restaurant is lovely. We have traveled... More

I have been regularly visiting this gem for some time with my husband. We have family nearby and often meet at the Spyway to enjoy the warm hospitality of the owners and staff and the fabulous food in this traditional Dorset pub. Simply wonderful on a warmer day sitting in the garden soaking up the amazing views and for colder... More

Lovely food, very generous portions and all home cooked. Very helpful staff, and barman was brilliant - helpful with menu and very friendly. Great. The décor is a bit tired for the back-room restaurant and would benefit from an over-hawl - shame really since it is such a great old character pub that it would be lovely if this was... More
