Sunday lunch in the garden

Had a great Sunday lunch in the garden at the rear. Well worth seeking out this inconspicuous establishment just off the main shopping street. No fuss, pay as you go out, £42.35 for three mains and a good bottle of Sauvignon Blanc - beat that!

Stumbled across here after a visit to the nearby Dinosaur Museum. Cheese and chutney baguette was very nice (and the accompanying salad was especially good, particularly the balsamic glaze). The cream tea comes highly rated by my girlfriend and very good value. A little disappointing that the children's meals are only half sandwiches and not half/smaller baguettes as well, though... We met here early on Saturday morning for breakfast before going to the dinosaur museum which is close by with our 3 1/2 year old nephew and Aunties and Grandma in tow! We had a variety of things for breakfast, half a fry up, bacon and eggs, sausage sandwich, great coffee and tea all at a great price. There is... More

I really like this place. For an independent cafe, there is lots of seating: inside, upstairs or outside, all of which are well laid out, bright and airy. Whilst the lunch time service was busy, it didn't feel particularly crowded. The furniture, including the high chair, were wooden and of good quality, giving a nice feel to the place. There... More

Although busy on a Sunday the food arrived quickly (surprisingly quickly) and was delicious. The menu was a little limited but they had specials and what they had all looked excellent. The deserts and coffee were the highlight.

Never been to Dorchester before but this little haven makes me want to go back! The service, food, value for money and overall ambience is enough to please even the most discerning (read picky) of customers.

It was an extremely busy Sunday, (12th of July) there were 5 of us eating, the food was fantastic. It only took around 25 minutes for the food to arrive which I thought was very reasonable because of how busy they were! But it took around 50 minutes for our drinks to arrive. By this time we had all eaten... More

This is a cheery place in a bit of a back street, so you might miss it if you are not aware of it. Inside the space is a bit like a tardis, small downstairs, but opens up to a large garden and lots more seating upstairs. Nice décor and cheery staff. As for the food quality? Very good flavour... We were guided to this gem by a local & was good advice. The staff are really friendly & helpful, the food was fabulous. Will be popping in for lunch on our next holiday.

Potter's Cafe is 'hidden' away down Durngate Street off the main thoroughfare in Dorchester. It is way too easy for the casual visitor to get seduced by the offerings of cafes nearer the main street but I would say the extra few yards is worth the effort. I evaluate restaurants on a TASK rating where T stands for Taste, A... More
