Description: Roly and Helen Harries took over this traditional village pub in Puddletown, near Dorchester in May 2013. Keeping the very best of the old, they set about combining its warm, friendly country ambience with a cool, airy modern interior – part of a style that is reflected in their approach to the food and hospitality. Something for which this bar and restaurant is rapidly gaining a first-class reputation. The food is home cooked, and where possible the ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally from friends or trusted specialist suppliers. The wines have been chosen to complement the menu, and there is always a range of excellent guest ales on tap.Together with Head Chef John Shrigley and his team, they've created a menu that reflects their personal tastes, with a truly international approach – a style that owes as much to the hot islands of the Mediterranean as it does to the classic and everyday dishes of Britain and mainland Europe. Roly and Helen with Children Thomas and Benjamin are passionate about producing the very best food at accessible prices, as well as extending a warm and friendly welcome to locals and visitors alike.

A pub is one of a great meeting points and heart of a village. You will have a friendly welcome here by the staff and locals. It has a modern interior with a large garden, great for families and a warm and friendly atmosphere. It is set at the entrance to the village of Puddletown, just off the A35 near... More

I have been meaning to try out the Blue Vinny for sometime after it was recommended by a friend. I finally managed to visit for lunch on Friday 4th April 2014 with my wife and my mother. I was glad that I had booked in advance as it was pretty busy even though it was lunchtime. The staff were very... More

Visited the Blue Vinney in January 14, I am a vegetarian so am always limited with choice. From memory I think there were two options for me and I was not disappointed with my choice. The food was very well presented and very tasty. Pleasant staff, will definitely return.

This is up with there with the many good gastro pubs our little dining club - six of us - have tried. A bit apprehensive when we booked but a great menu with a specials board well presented food, brilliant service from the young staff and a really good atmosphere with a welcoming log fire. This is not just pub... More

We booked a meal for 14 for my mothers 80th and it couldn't have been better, we were asked to pre- order as it was a big party and they didn't mind us making changes even on the day. The staff were helpful and polite and food was of a consistently high standard. Nothing was too much bother, sorting out... More

Having heard good reports, I decided to take my Wife there for a treat. On what can only be described as the wettest day so far of this Winter, we ventured forth from Sherborne. It was raining and blowing a gale, at one time we contemplated giving up, so much rain and roads covered with floods. So pleased we did... More

Although its just a short skip off a main road to Dorchester, why would anyone go to Puddletown? Blue cheese! This delightful pub with friendly staff serves delicious pub food and a proper pint, but, for me, it was all about the local blue cheese that lent the pub its quirky name. And be sure to ask about the old... More
