Very friendly and welcoming

Went here one Friday night. A very good menu and specials board. We wanted to customise one of our dishes and the staff were happy to help. Good warm comfortable atmosphere and the food was excellent. So much so that my girlfriend even had a dessert. Unusual for her ! Will definitely return.

Warm welcome, good food, attentive and friendly staff. The beer is good, as is the wine selection. Thoroughly recommended!

Dear Von61, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and provide feed back on your visit. We are sorry to hear your meal was not hot enough and as you quite rightly stated the table opposite you also commented on the temperate of their meal.I can only assume then that you heard me say how sorry we... We have passed the pig and whistle lots of times on the way to totnes but not really thought about going in. My parents mentioned that it had received lots of good reviews so we decided to give it a go. We are so glad we did because the food is so good! We shared the antipasti platter and garlic... More

We visited for lunch, the staff were friendly and organised without being pushy. I had a crab baguette and my wife went for the burger, both of which were presented well and served in a good time. I also had a portion of chips which I'm afraid tasted too much of oil. The crab was pleasant but the salad was... More

Dear John W, Thank you for your Experts review of your visit, it is always nice to receive a recognised food critic review. I have taken on board your comments on the Deep Fried Chips tasting of oil and the salad being drenched in lemon dressing and can only apologise. There is no mention of your wife's Gourmet Burger and... More

Visited over Easter on spec and was pleasantly surprised, attentive staff but not in your face, good food, staff explained that they were busy and the food would be a bit longer than normal but was still pretty quick. would strongly recommend.

Had planned to eat at our favourite Pub in Ipplepen (the Wellington) which is always good, but they were fully packed out that night, so we drove on toward Totnes and stopped on spec at the Pig and Whistle as it was getting late. We'd had a poor experience there a few years ago, so were wary, but it's changed... More

Dear Ivor B, Thank you for taking the time to write a very kind and generous review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit and that we managed to accommodate you. We purchased the pub in September 2012 when it was closed so it has taken a lot of love and hard work from all involved to get us to... More

Sunday lunch here with my husband, toddler and usually very fussy parents. Everything was superb. The meat was plentiful and cooked perfectly and the choice of vegetables which were served in serving dishes was excellent. My parents returned twice for dinner during our holiday.
