We often go out on a Sunday morning to give the grandson some exercise and something a little different. Today he was thrilled to see Berry Pomeroy Castle through the car window. While paying to get in the English Heritage ‘venue’ we saw the castle Café and debated whether we would pop in for grub after our castle attack. Well,... More

We first visited the cafe just to have a coffee, after exploring the castle. The roast dinners looked amazing so we reserved a table a fortnight later. We were not disappointed. The choices are limited, but the food absolutely delicious. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. You do need to book in advance on a Sunday as every table... More

Just used to go to the castle cafe because it has an amazing atmosphere like visiting old friends. Totally at peace there. Amazing food like my Dorset auntie used to cook . So much that is real is lost today in the crazy world we are subjected to. So if you want real country how we farming folk used to... More

As a couple this hidden away retreat was a very special place that was until our visit this summer, to find new owners was a surprise but more than happy to stay was so disappointed, the service was none existent & the new owner very agitated & aggressive which on reflection can only be down to our food being taken... I was taking my other half visiting from USA to the castle as they dont have them in USA ! We got there mid morning and needed coffee. It was a Sat but quite quiet. WE looked at the menu and decided that coffee and a cake was for now and after we'd been around the castle we would be... More

We were a party of 9 that decided on an impromptu visit for a quick cream tea in the early afternoon. Weather was pretty miserable, so we chose to visit the Castle Cafe, and glad we did! It was pretty quiet in there (probably due to the weather), and after browsing the menu, we all decided to have a light... More

Despite the sign at the entrance saying the cafe was open, when we arrived we were told that it wasn't open for another 30 mins, not even for a cup of coffee! When suggesting that wasn't great service, it was suggested that next time we ring first!! There won't be a next time.

Have just been with my mum and 85yr old grandma, as it's grams favourite place and have had numerous family get together here as the older couple were amazingly friendly. Today we were told by some dark haired unfriendly man, that unless we put our dogs in the car(sunny day....really?!) we were not welcome. There were only 4 people in... More

Living in Totnes, we walk from our place along Bourton Lane to Berry Pomeroy castle a few times a year, I really enjoy the lunches here (especially the specials), the cream teas and the homemade cakes. The only disappointment was the Sunday lunch so we try to go on another day of the week! Then we walk home through Berry... More
