Description: Grandad Nicols is now open and serving the residents and guest of torquay...
Grandad Nicols is now open and serving the residents and guest of torquay with freshly cooked " old fashioned fish and chips" the traditional way. We serve only the highest graded fish from the clean waters of iceland and local specials from brixham fish market, and home made specials like Haddock & Parsly fish cakes and our famous yorkshire fish cakes.

Due to a number of people thinking we have stale or old oil we have made the decision to change the type of oil we fry in we used to use beef dripping but we have had some comments saying that the oil was stale old etc. So we have now change to vegetable oil which is more commonly found in the fish and chip shops and most people are accustomed to

Great fish and chips

Tried a portion of fish and chips for just over £3 and was very pleased. Dubious about the price but when I ate it great portion size, succulent fish and a wee gem!!

Every two weeks or so we find an excuse to swing by Belgrave Road and get a fish and chip supper from Grandads. The fish is the best we have found in the town, cod, haddock or other white fish, and the portions good value. They have a really busy order side so take away can be a few minutes... More

Looks a bit tatty BUT the service, cleanliness and the food is the best I've eaten in Devon. Crisp thin bubbly batter........ fresh fish and chips fried to perfection......... everything drained properly. For Gluten free eaters the batter is definitely unbelievably good and he'll batter whatever you ask for. Prices are really good value........ do not miss out , if... More

Every time I've been in grandad nicols it's been terrible!! Staff are great I must admit but on a couple of occasions I have had to complain. Ask for a battered sausage and small chips, chips were stale and old, battered sausage was pathetic. Soggy batter too! Kebab meet is old, pitta bread is also soggy, And this is frequent.... More
