Surprisingly Good

Realising that it was probably 20 years since our last visit (when all was under different management anyway) we went in here for lunch on a whim. Entry might be a bit torturous for strangers or the infirm (cobbled-lane foyer followed by two flights of stairs) but there is a lift to the restaurant... read more

Nice surroundings and high expectations; I had soup which was cauliflower and curry (tastes better than it sounds) and followed by a salmon teriyaki which was tasty. However our other main was calves liver (quite nice itself) which apart from being over priced at £16:95 was spoiled by being covered in onion chutney - a strange addition. Also, the bread... More

This restaurant is above the Plymouth Gin Distillery. We did the gin tour - had the best cocktail in their bar then had dinner in James Tanner and his brother's restaurant. The food was so good apart from the fish and chips which was very dry. No cocktails here so brought one in from the Plymouth Gin bar. Talking to... More

The food was good. We had a hamburger, chicken with mash and salmon with new potatoes. Small portions, but the quality was excellent. The staff was friendly.

We often come here for a special occasion as a family. The food is always seasonal and really tasty and the service is always excellent. You can always count on the Barbican Kitchen for a good meal out.

Visited with my girlfriend and had a fairly good experience. The food was tasty, pretty reasonably priced and nicely presented. The staff were young and subsequently a bit inexperienced but we all start somewhere. My other half has some serious allergies but the team dealt with it perfectly. My only real bad point is that the tables are too close... More

My wife picked this restaurant. So I was apprehensive. As it turned out my slow cooked pork belly I ordered with the alternative crushed potatoes was excellent. The piece de la resistance was the crushed potatoes thanks to Anna in the kitchen. May she go from strength to strength.

Just had a great lunch at this excellent brasserie. Artisanal breads with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic to dip and delicious kalamata and nocellara olives to start. The bread was stunning - cleared baked this morning - and the olives fresh and plump. A very strong start that continued into the main course of whole lemon sole in garlic... More

We had a disturbing experience when having lunch at the Barbican Kitchen. I am disabled and attempted to use the lift to go to the ground floor. The lift jammed between floors. It was a frightening experience made worse because the staff seemed to think it was a joke. It took 15 minutes to get the lift operational. No one... More
