Platters is a bit of an institution in The Barbican. It is a no-frills place that serves local fish in a variety of ways. Produce is sourced from almost outside the door at the Plymouth fish market which means it is super fresh and varied.

Very pleasant stafff, if you are looking for an intimate atmosphere and enjoy sea food, Platters is definitely the place to eat on the Barbican.

From its location on the main street in the Barbican, I thought it was just another greasy fish and chip restaurant - but the battered fish I had was excellent, moist, open texture in a generous portion, and my wife's chowder was a meal on it's own. We were in a hurry but they served us quickly, despite being full.... More

Phoned and booked a table which was no problem! The food was great although the king prawns we're clearly from frozen. Made to feel welcome throughout are meal. Order from the specials board as this ensures the freshest fish!

This was the second time I visited this restaurant, the first visit was unpleasant but I thought I'd give it another shot. Again, absolutely appalling. First of all, the waiter was not welcoming at all, there were a big group of us coming into the restaurant, with tables free, however he sent us out and said to wait 15 minutes.... More

I ordered the paella dish for a main course. It was disgusting. It was covered in lots of sauce making it impossible to finish. The seafood wasn't tasty either.

Another great meal at Platters! Always order off the special board if I can, crab claws were spot on. I find Platters real value for money and the portions plenty full. It's always busy and has a great atmosphere. Give it a go you won't be disappointed!

This is a very pleasant restaurant and the staff are nice and helpful. The food appears to be freshly cooked and is very very good. They also have a take-away shop next door which possibly helps. The only negative is it is slightly cramped and snug. If you had noisy, or a group of people sitting nearby it would be... More

We went with our 14 year old son early Sunday evening. I'm not going to review the food as I've done that before. It was quiet with only 3 or 4 tables occupied. There were 2 couples in their 50s at the table next to us who appeared to be very drunk. The swearing didn't bother me. But the sexist,... More

Excellent seafood in a relaxed atmosphere. Prompt and knowledgeable service from the friendly staff with mostly local produce meant a great night......
