great fish & chips!

So much to be said. Great fresh fish with the most loveliest chips you could ask for! Very, very tasty and fantastic portion. The place is warm and full of atmosphere, and very friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel most welcome. We were asked if we had booked a... read more

It's all been said. Fresh fish from the quay. Small space, usually lacked. Occasional delays on service but usually slick.simply classically cooked fish. Frequent specials. Prices about fair. Not cheap. We always have fun here.

i had heard a lot about the place since moving to Plymouth 3 years ago, and on my first visit I enjoyed my cod and chips. The decor is dated and waiting staff could be improved as there was only 1 guy serving at what was quite a busy restaurant on a Tuesday night but overall I would go back.

Second visit to Platters and it just gets better. The interior is a bit quirky i.e. nothing fancy but I tend to judge on the quality of the food and the ambiance rather than fancy fixtures and fittings. Dover Sole and fresh lobster on St. Valentine's night was fantastic. Service is efficient and friendly and I'm now looking for another... More

Possibly a plymouth icon like the Dolphin almost next door. Don't confuse the fish restaurant with the adjacent little sister chip shop. Platters proper sells excellent fish in quantity for a reasonable price. Service can be brusque but is basically efficient and well disposed, especially towards familiar faces. They take bookings but don't respect them. If they remember your call... More

Came in the noon. Had lobsters, Prawns in garlic sauce and a cod. I would say the price is very reasonable, service is rather applaudable but the food is far from tasty. The lobster meat was rock hard, it tasted like frozen lobster similar to what you get from lobsters and burgers. The most shocking thing is at lobster and... More

We're baffled by the glowing reviews for this place. There wasn't much atmosphere (though we visited on a weekday lunchtime, to be fair) and the decor is dull and dated. The banquettes are too close to the tables and there's no way you can push them back. Service was pleasant, if a tad slow initially. A starter of chilli prawns... More

Take the waiters advice, worth everything! Share a starters as they are large helping and the Dover sole was a big plate size and beautifully cooked. Proper chips a really excellent meal.

What a great place, always busy but the staff always find time to be pleasant, service is really quick and the fish and seafood are second to none. Have tried various dishes and all absolutely excellent, fish pie is the best ever. A must when visiting the Barbican, can't rate it highly enough.
