On a small road trip around the south coast we spent 2 nights in Plymouth, and after a day of walking around the Hoe we came upon Platters. The restaurant was half full and people seemed to be enjoying themselves so we went in...the decor is a bit dated but you are welcomed by such friendly faces that its almost... More

Just dropped in for a meal with four colleagues, after being told in two other restaurants that they were too busy to serve us, although both had empty tables. Platters was almost empty when we walked in, but soon after we arrived, a large number of people came in. We ordered quickly, to avoid waiting for the others to get... More

Visited Platters this week and I can honestly say they do the best fish pie in the Universe - second to none!!! My partner had the grilled fish trio and this was equally delicious - three types of fish, grilled to perfection, different but exquisite flavours. Enormous helping of fish pie and it came with peas, carrots, brocolli, all fresh... More

Reputedly famous for its fish and chips so ordered Whitebait, followed by cod and chips. Small portion of Whitebait was served and half way through the dip arrived; this was placed at other end of table, together with side plates and knifes. Just finishing and bread and butter was placed - out of reach. Things improved with prompt serving of... More

We were down in plymouth for the weekend and had planned to visit this restaurant as it is in a nice position on the Barbican. We'd booked a table which was good as the restaurant was heaving when we arrived. We ordered the platter of three fish; John Dory, lemon sole, and another white fish. This was delicious and cooked... We headed for this place before catching he ferry to France. This time we tried the take away rather than the eat in place next door and sadly it was a big mistake! The fish was of very poor quality and was dry and still had the skin on. The chips were scrappy and dry and the bread rolls were... More

Whilst on holiday we wanted a proper fish and chips meal and my dad (who lives in Looe) recommended we go here. I have to say it exceeded my expectations, with a very large fish and generous portion chips with peas. They also do mussels and several other types of fish apart from cod and haddock. It was very fresh... More

This is our very favourite Barbican cafe. Closely followed by the Noodle Lounge. I wrote a constructive but concerned review about three years ago. My view has not changed but I am pleased that Platters with all it's foibles survives and above all else is a fun place to come in a group and eat simply cooked fresh local fish.... More

So much to be said. Great fresh fish with the most loveliest chips you could ask for! Very, very tasty and fantastic portion. The place is warm and full of atmosphere, and very friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel most welcome. We were asked if we had booked a table which we hadn't,... More
