Have snacked here several times and been very happy with it but prefer it as a peaceful amenable place to relax after a heavy day or even just to take it easy if in town. Very affable staff. Good wines. Pleasant space. Tolerable peaceful beautiful corner of older part of town and yet so close to hectic retail centre.

Bit disappointed with the meal. Had hi hopes but wasn't impressed. Staff explained the cookers were down when we arrived which was fine but it was about 50 mins between our starter and main. I don't want to be too negative because the staff were great but my food really wasn't up to much. Bearing in mind all the other... More

I have eaten here before but this is the first time I have been invited to review the Chancel. This is a great place to eat, they have a wonderful choice of food that is freshly cooked. Not only that they offer gluten free meals and not only pasta and pizzas which is fantastic as there is limited choice in... More

We had the fish platter.Very tasty and a generous portion. My only comment would be that it is tight for space in the bar,we ate at 5.30 on saturday and didnot go downstairs into restaurant area, would def go back for more.

Eat here a few times a year bit we prefer mid/late afternoon for a peaceful mellow drink to gently wash the cares of the world away. Very good selection of wines competitively priced.

I just had lunch at the Chancel and it was delicious. I had a very generous portion of tasty fresh crab and a good varied salad, and my companion had fish in a very light crispy batter with perfectly cooked chips. The people at the next table were eating tapas which looked really good too. I felt I had very... More

Saw reviews and decided to try for myself. When I entered I was promptly advised that the kitchen was backed up slightly, but if I did not mind the wait they would be happy to seat me at a table. When was the last time a restaurant was more concerned with your experience, than making a buck? the wait was... More

Our first taste of food at The Chancel. Wow! Superb! We celebrated a 70th Birthday evening meal last Friday (11th July). The food was fresh, very good quality and superbly cooked. A definite for more visits. The owners are warm and welcoming and the staff friendly and very good at their jobs. Well done, good luck, and long may you... More

This is the third time we have visited the Chancel and once again we were not disappointed. Our main course was the fish platter. It was absolutely delicious and very filling. We find the prices very reasonable as the food is top class. The service is great and staff are friendly. It is worth a visit if you have never... More

Every time I go the Chancel, I am always impressed, but on this particular occasion Paula went out of her way to accommodate us. This really is my favourite restaurant in Plymouth! I look forward to my next visit.
