Having discovered this little gem, I'm not sure if I want to add a review to let all know how wonderful it is and then not be able to get a table at weekends! We go most weekends now and grab a coffee / hot chocolate or maybe two... Louise who seems to be one of the most regular ladies... More

Stopped here for a coffee and sandwich on a showery lunchtime. Tasty sandwich and good coffee served promptly. The cafe is sited on the sea wall and has covered areas to protect from the the rain and sea whilst still giving great views. Everywhere was clean, the service polite and friendly. We will definitely return.

Slow service, people queuing quite a while to place orders. The staff were miserable but working hard and as there were only two of them it took a very long time. The general upkeep of the place could be improved as it is tired and grubby. The prices are far too high for what you get, £3.50 for a very... More

I think some of the reviews on here are spot on. There are a range of positives and negatives about this place. Good points are the view, the quality of food, but the negatives are the general upkeep, friendliness of the staff, price and the lack of table service. But as the name suggests, it is just a cafe... It... More

I'm amazed at some of the poor reviews!!!! We go here on a regular basis and can't find anything to complain about - believe me if there was something I would find it!! We went last Sunday for coffee and toast/bacon bap - we always ask for butter on the side and this is what we get, the coffee is... More

El Cafe on the Hoe Road in Plymouth is about as average as you can describe. There's nothing especially wrong with it but it's just dull. The view and setting is spectacular on the front of Plymouth, but the food is standard stuff... burgers, sandwiches, paninis etc. Counter service and cheap furniture don't help either. If you just want a... More

Great location but attitude of staff very poor. When ordering food & drinks staff don't even look you in the eye and only interested in getting your money. When leaving staff completely ignored us! Customer service skills non existent apart from the waitress who was pleasant! The guys behind counter zero social skills! Wouldn't return in a hurry.

Caught a sunny hour in between deluges of rain and had a great all day breakfast at El Café. Great views and friendly service from the young chap who was all on his own keeping all the balls in the air!

Like everyone is keen to state, the voews here are great, which adds real appeal. However, this place is a little pricey for what it offers, after all it is an outdoor cafe, and essentially a dog walkers rest. A lick of paint wouldnt do it any harm either, never quite understood why the view has to be blocked by... More
