Opened just before the August Bank Holiday in the large ground floor of a big old Victorian terraced house beside West Hoe Park and about two hundred metres from the sea. This is a clean simple modern family cafe with a couple of tables out front near the childrens play area and the servery and several wooden tables inside. There is already a Facebook support page and during the opening week it has been busy on wet and dry days. Easily justifies an entry. There has been a recent small surge in the large waterfront area involving independent small tea and home made fresh cake and snack businesses. Things are looking up.

Afternoon tea

To me, this is exactly what a tea room is all about. Homely, clean, full of home made cakes, by a cheery park and full of love and happiness. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The Victoria sponge cake is to die for! Could spend hours here just unwinding.

We found this while visiting the children's playpark opposite after a visit to the Hoe and walk along the sea front. Nice friendly layout inside, with books and children's toys available, but remaining very presentable. Very good coffee and a delectable range of homemade cakes to tempt you, along with soup, paninis and sandwiches with crisps, to name just a... More

We went to Cafe By The Park for the first time in ages on a Thursday Lunchtime. It was very busy and we were lucky enough to get the last empty table. We had a lovely Cold Drink of Squash but ice cold with fresh fruits. Very thirst quenching and a great idea. we followed with the Soup of the... More

We came across the Cafe unexpectedly and it seemed like a nice place to stop just opposite the West Hoe Park and up from the Sound. We had a warm welcome into this small but really friendly Cafe. There was a lovely atmosphere, a fireplace, box of children's toys (which was lovely as young families do come in from the... More

We called in to see Nicky and Hannah during our annual trip to watch the British Fireworks Championships in Plymouth and, as ever, the welcome was warm and friendly. Nicky's cakes are absolutely delicious - we tried the coffee cake and it was heavenly - so tasty. We noticed that the establishment has expanded since our last visit and there... More

Nice little informal cafe. Has a real fire in winter. Nicky, the owner, is very welcoming and turns out very good food and coffee. Try the cakes - I kid you not - they're some of the best you'll get anywhere!
