Certificate of Excellence 2014
Cuisines: British
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch
Description: Opened just before the August Bank Holiday in the large ground floor of a big old Victorian terraced house beside West Hoe Park and about two hundred metres from the sea. This is a clean simple modern family cafe with a couple of tables out front near the childrens play area and the servery and several wooden tables inside. There is already a Facebook support page and during the opening week it has been busy on wet and dry days. Easily justifies an entry. There has been a recent small surge in the large waterfront area involving independent small tea and home made fresh cake and snack businesses. Things are looking up.

This is a lovely place to visit for food and coffee. You can sit outside now too. The cakes are simply delicious and the decor is very clean and modern. Super!

Another visit to this homely, welcoming cafe. It has recently been extended and this has only enhanced it's appeal. It now has a wonderful, sunny (not guaranteed!) outside patio area for enjoying your food in. The food is fresh and all the cakes are homemade. We had a delicious afternoon tea after a tasty lunch! Children are welcome and well... More

Popped in for breakfast, which became brunch. We were served quickly and a huge breakfast baguette and bacon sandwich were soon delivered. Extremely tasty, we were filled up until dinner. We sat by the window but there was ample seating outside (front and back.) A really convenient base for the near-by play parks and walking along the waterfront.

We have eaten at this cafe on several occasions and found the food to be fresh and tasty. There isn't a great selection on the menu (mainly light bites), but we prefer there to be less choice but more care taken over preparation, which this cafe obviously does! If you have a sweet tooth, the victoria sponge (with real cream)... More

What a great find compared to all the commercial rubbish we see these days. Great coffee, cakes and atmosphere. Prices are worth it considering it's all homemade.

We had a lovely lunch in this warm comfortable eatery. The menu is varied and interesting. We enjoyed the generous baguette fillings and large portions of cake.

I must have walked past a hundred times on my way to university as I only live around the corner but only went in for the first time this weekend. Great fresh food (the creamiest goats cheese) and perfect coffee for affordable prices. I'll be a regular soon enough!

We had a groupon deal for a baguette with a hot drink. The baguette was warmed and the filling cooked and prepared so was really fresh and warm. We went across the road and sat in the park to eat and drink. Very nice.

Stopped here for a light tea with my mum and my two girls 10 & 7.. It usually closes at 4.30pm but was open later due to the fireworks event. We all had baguettes which were offered with a delicious range of fillings, goats cheese with spiced pear chutney or Brie with beetroot pickle, for example. The bread was wonderfully... More
