Opened just before the August Bank Holiday in the large ground floor of a big old Victorian terraced house beside West Hoe Park and about two hundred metres from the sea. This is a clean simple modern family cafe with a couple of tables out front near the childrens play area and the servery and several wooden tables inside. There is already a Facebook support page and during the opening week it has been busy on wet and dry days. Easily justifies an entry. There has been a recent small surge in the large waterfront area involving independent small tea and home made fresh cake and snack businesses. Things are looking up.

Hidden Gem that accepts well behaved dogs on leads

We walked round The Hoe and made sure we detoured to pass on our way back to the car as we saw the cake selection. To find that dogs on leads were allowed inside was a surprise, great coffee and delicious cakes in comfort inside with our dog.. a perfect end to a Sunday walk. We will visit again... read more

As Gandparents we have been and indeed have taken our Grandson to the Cafe now for over 2 years. We have always been welcomed warmly, have never waited long for service, have appreciated the cleanliness of the place and efficiency of the staff. More importantly the high standard of home made food (expecially cakes) have always been heartily enjoyed. We... More

Stroll along the Hoe, marvel at the Barbican where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail from....and don't miss a visit to By The Park Cafe. Such a lovely place, relaxing atmosphere, superb service and a really excellent choice of cakes and food. So good I went twice. A lovely relaxing cup of peppermint tea and most importantly..they asked if I would... More

Nothing is too much trouble in this delightful and relaxed Deli. I've had delicious breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas with friends, family and my partner and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. (I've tried to resist the choice of mouth-watering home made cakes but always fail, thankfully!) There's a log fire and comfy sofas and outdoor... More

Went here for lunch and had a lovely brie and beetroot Panini. Also took away some of the excellent homemade Lemon Victoria sponge....delicious! Very nice coffee also and very good service so all in all recommended.

On horribly mizzly morning called by at about 1100 for coffees with friends. By 1215 the place was buzzing, and is clearly very popular. Had an americano and later an elderflower crush (delightful) with a BLT and wife had pannini with brie & pear chutney. Whole place was clean and fresh, and service was good. The placing of tables and... More

Going to Cafe By The Park in West Hoe is just as I remember going to see one of many Aunties. Everything is Fresh and the majority home made by the Proprietor. You are made to feel very welcome and the Cakes are delicious and very very reasonably priced. The coffee is very well made - yes, coffee can be... More
