We went to Lily May's for supper as we were looking for places to eat that weren't too expensive and catered for vegetarians. Lily May's fit the bill in that they had an excellent vegetarian chilli for dinner. My husband also had some veg soup and a jacket potato. Very friendly service and did the trick.

Slightly away from other evening eating places, we found this one by chance- quiet but friendly and very helpful. I couldn't decide whether it was an egg or pineapple with my gammon and the proprietor offered me both at no extra charge! Food was relatively quick, looked good and tasted nice too. Very helpful the first night and allowed 2... More

After walking around Lynton hungry but undecided what we wanted to eat and which establishment to go into. We strolled to the East end of the main street (by the church) and saw this place, menu looked good and not too expensive, it was busy but not crowded and looked inviting. We went in - it was great. Next night... More

Really attractive café - outside tables, nice view. Sea-sidey. Inside, white chairs and tablecloths. There were some badly cling-filmed cakes in the window and I should in retrospect have followed my instincts at that point and left, but my daughter had chosen the place so I decided to see it through. Ordered the special: quiche, chips and salad. Once I'd... More

Very friendly staff and the cake and hot chocolate were lovely. If you like a traditional tea room, then this is one for you.

A damp dreary wet Sunday led us to this little Gem of a place for lunch. A lovely warm welcome greeted us from the staff. We opted for the Roast Lamb Sunday lunch, a good choice, although others who had the Beef or Chicken looked equally great! Our Lamb was beautifully cooked, a real treat, clearly home cooked and not... More

Enjoyed a lovely evening meal here prepared by the new owners. Good choice of food and didn't have too long to wait. Decor was lovely and bright in seaside colours. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Would have liked to try out lunch/snack menu too but sadly we ran out of... More

I have decided to reply to your review on Lily Mays cafe. First of all your comment about poorly wrapped food in the window,I would like to point out that this food is for display purposes only and not for human consumption.

I would also like to mention that Lynton is a very dog friendly town and when we are quiet I allow dogs into the cafe as long as they behave and don't disrupt other customers and yes I had a conversation with them about their dogs and yes Ii brought my dog out to see them but I had changed out my whites and was taking a break. After which I washed my hands as I always do before handling foods of any kind....our living quarters are next to the kitchen so at no time do I allow my dog or any animals into the kitchen area. The only reason I introduced my dog to your wife was because she was practically hanging off the chair looking at him with glee after all he is a little cutie.

Your comment about the food was rather strange because when I asked if you enjoyed the food your reply was yes and you certainly ate it all except for a small portion of quiche but it was a large serving.

Yes i agree with your comment about the carpet but as you mentioned we are new to the cafe and are doing what we can a bit at a time,we are a small family run business and are learning as we go but really Martin L you should get your facts right before you have a go at good hard working folks who are trying to earn an honest living.....but I'm glad you came into my cafe at least you were leaving someone else alone........thank you lily mays.....
