Warm and friendly put

A quaint village pub with a great log burner but in need of some TLC. Shbbyness is made up for by the very friendly staff. We had food in the bar which had good quality burgers and large portions. Pub locals were welcoming and friendly. Not sure they are used to strangers coming in off the moors in... read more

Called on a very wet Friday evening and welcomed by a lovely roaring fire in the bar area. The inn has a very cozy restaurant area away from the bar where we ate. We enjoyed the food very much and there was plenty of it for a very reasonable price. We will definitely eat here again when we are in... More

Stopped here whilst walking around Lynton recently. There was an excellent selection of local ales and lunches. This including a selection of about 5 soups (you normally only get one choice). I had an Exmoor Blue and Broccoli soup which was absolutely delicious. My wife had a cream of cauliflower soup which she also descrribed as being very nice. Well... More

Very generous with portion size. We had the ham, egg and chips and the cod and chips. Fair to say it was more than just pub grub, it seemed freshly cooked and good value for money. The only thing I would say is that the lighting in the eating area was too dull, not ideal when trying to eat

The crown bar service was friendly and welcoming. The food was very good, large portions freshly cooked. Sadly, this placed was let down by poor toilet facilities

I visited the bar area of the hotel in October 2014 following a game of football. The service I received from the staff serving drinks behind the bar and serving food was OK. Not rude but certainly not as welcoming as I would expect. The hotel features ales from St. Austell brewery. The range during my visit included Dartmoor, Tribute... More

Crown was dated, food excellent and plentiful, beverages very good and well priced. We even went back there Monday for a few drinks, we should have had a meal there but went to the Vanilla Pod big mistake.

Excellent ale - had Tribute and HSD. Both well kept. Didn't try the Proper Job, but reasonable to assume it was as good. Very attractive frescos/murals on the walls gave it a very homely atmosphere. Music playing, which might otherwise have been annoying, but this was some quite nice '70s sounding jazzy/R&B stuff. Not sure who it was, but went... More

Good basic pub grub well cooked and served. We had the fish and chips, which was fresh , hot and very tasty. The beer ( Tribute) was excellent. Not a smart place, but that does not matter when food is this good and priced accordingly.
