Booked a meal by telephone on the Monday for 8pm on the friday. Got there.... no record of booking. Tried to seat squeeze us on the most awful table there even though the restaurant was half empty. I refused so got seated in a better position. Ordered food, 25 minutes later someone came over to say my choice was unavailable.... More

I don't normally post any negative reviews but I was so annoyed that I feel as though I need to! I Visited here today with my little boy, the doors were open, the lights were on so I carried the pushchair and my bags down the stairs. Got greeted at the door, sat down and then a waitress came over... More

Firstly the service was absolutely terrible despite there being an abundance of young staff on duty; menus not collected (perhaps they are place mats?), dishes not collected from main to dessert, food served ages apart from each other so that most had eaten their meal before others had received theirs, orders incorrect, attitude from the staff, forgetful staff, incorrect change... From the outset Chaucers is a fantastic place, slap-bang in the middle of Exeter - it should be buzzing with people, especially at the time my friend and I arrived. But yet, it fails short somehow, with only a handful of tables occupied with mere groups of twos and threes. After yesterday...I see why it can't accomodate more than three... More

First visit to this restaurant and must admit the food was very nice, service was quick and friendly and the place was clean and well presented. Not a cheap eat but very nice all the same. No disabled access that we could see or find so beaware.

Went to the bar, was served a nice cold beer, browsed the menu and chose the meal the three if us had wanted to eat. My 19 year old cousin starts to tuck into his burger, he takes a few bites and comes across what he thinks is a blue napkin in the middle of his burger. Turns out it... More

My last review was before recent changes. Now that you do not order drink from one end & food from the other you wait to be seated and wait for your order to be taken. The food was good and the pint of hobgoblin also. No complaints about the service either.
