My husband and I used to like the food and atmosphere of Chaucer's. Visited Sat 5th July 14. Waited for our food for 45 mins, which we don't mind if good. I had the lasagne which lacked meat! Plenty of tomatoes and both whole spring onions and red onions which where not normal in such dish and too over powering.... More

Thank you for your the review you have left for our pub and sorry for the late reply I have been on holiday. I was on annual leave at the time of your visit but this should in no way change the standard of the meals at Chaucers. We do use red onions in our homemade lasagne but not spring... More

The staff here were lovely and very friendly. However there were cleaning materials left in the dining area and uncleared tables! I visited with my elderly parents who found the stairs very difficult and as the lighting was so low my mum was concerned as she could not see steps etc and had to rely on me to be guided.... More

Revisited and although my last review was not good, this time the service, food, attention to sails and e atmosphere was what I had always expected from this restaurant, so the last visit must have been a one off. It was great to be with the family and to know that this was going to be good. Thank you manager... More

Went here with 7 friends - booked a table and asked not to have an alcove as some of the party smoke and would not want to climb over others when they go out - when I arrived I asked the barman for the table, it was booked in an alcove! I asked that we were moved and he put... More

This an old fashioned pub where the atmosphere, and the beer is important, the menu is varied and quite extensive with specials on as well. Food is well cooked, well priced and the portions are just right. It is delivered quickly, so no awkward waits or gaps. There is a wide and excellent choice of drinks with guest beers for... More

Called in for lunch while my wife was busy. First impression - cosy, nicely decorated but very dark, I had a problem finding enough light to read the menu properly!! Ordered chilli jacket and a pint. Food came in about 10 mins. Good standard pub food, but not outstanding, just right for lunch. Free WiFi without a password was a... More

Thank you for the nice comments you have left about Chaucers, I agree it can be a little dark in places and I sometimes find it hard to strike the balance between cosy and dark, but we are working on it, (one of the many problems of working underground). I hope to see you again soon! Kind regards Murray. More
