Total lack of service

I have to say this was not my first visit to the Swans Nest, coming very close to being my last. This venue retains its old world charm. The carvery food was very pleasant but what on earth has happened to the service?Almost non existent. Lots of 'smiling children' patrolling the area but no one... read more

We were on our way back from Exeter to Dawlish and decided to stop here for some food. Good selection on the menu, excellent carvery, good ales. Not cheap but I'd go again.

The modern way is minimalism, which involves the customers serving themselves as much as the owner can get away with. This place exemplifies this. Travel abroad and there will be waiter service. Only in England do the customers have to queue at the bar for a drink and go through the embarrassing indignities of having to attract the attention of... More

A group of 20 of us visited here for an early evening meal. This was my first visit to the Swan's Nest - it's huge inside, but fortunately there is ample parking. The interior is very interesting with some lovely looking antique furniture. That's one of the few positive things I can find to say! The bar was utter chaos,... More

Found this place whilst staying in the area. A very old inn with plenty of character, we chose the carvery. The meat and vegetables were quite good but we thought expensive at £10.95. (Northern prices would be more like £6.95) There was also a huge range of desserts on display. Staff were polite and helpful, the young man carving claimed... More

we had a meal here Sunday lunch time, not been here for 5 years, we know owners changed a few years ago. The food is still just as good as it always has been, we have been coming here for last 28 years and we think it's one of the best carvery' we have been to. Deserts are also really... More

had lunch there today the food was very good indeed and would defiantly eat there again, the only thing that let it down was the Dorset beers tasted flat and was told thats how it should be.
