Visited on Sunday afternoon as we hadn`t been here for years, and were surprised at the lack of people there, this did mean a quick and very good service though. My wife and I both chose the carvery but we were slightly disappointed - the beef was overcooked and dry and the roast potatoes and some of the veg appeared... More

I haven't eaten here for a long time, maybe a couple of times since it's 'heydays'. Yes, the place is dark & dingy as other reviewers have commented and I also agree with some of the comments about the food...the Negative ones that is. All the bar staff were very friendly & gave a courteous Hello/Goodbye. so I can't fault... More

We made a last minute decision to go to the Swans Nest for a Sunday lunch carvery. It does get very busy, we arrived for 12, plenty of parking but lots of tables reserved inside but as we got there early there were still unreserved tables available. I would recommend sitting away from the carvery/bar area however, as the queue... More

We had Sunday lunch carvery today, and I rarely find these little more than acceptable, today was no exception. Parking plentiful and easy, the doors opened at 1200 sharp, our table reservation was for 12:00, so waiting outside with about a dozen others for ten minutes. The staff were efficient, professional and friendly. The carvery had gammon, turkey, beef and... More

I have never eaten from the menu here, but I have returned repeatedly for a carvery. Today's was delicious with a good choice of vegetables and crispy roast potatoes. I am not a puddings person but the swans nests vast array of tempting desserts on display never fails to entice me, I love that you can see all of the... More

A birthday treat it was not. On my husbands plate the chips were dark brown, wrinkled and inedible! The bacon was so hard it shattered when you tried to cut it. The Sausages were hard and rubbery you couldn't cut them let alone try to eat one. Fried egg was hard and curled on the edge. My chips were the... More

Always pop in for a carvery when we are in the area, the staff are so friendly and welcoming they always remember us. Carvery is the best around always fresh and hot very generous portions. Was lovely sat out in the garden with a drink. The table next to us ordered off the menue, looked delish looking forward to returning... More

Enjoyed our carvery meal at this pub on the outskirts of Exeter, although some of the vegetables (the carrots and green beans) were almost cold. The yorkshire pud wasn't too edible either, haing been kept warm too long, which was surprising as we ate only half an hour after the start of the carvery. The rest of the meal was... More

Nothing to write home about. Dark brown greasy chips, luke warm scampi and tartare sauce with a thick skin on it. Other people found that if you ordered a sandwich you got a baguette and if you ordered a baguette you got a sandwich. This pub is in such a good location it really should be so much better

A huge pub with relatively few customers at lunchtime. The Palmers 200 is superb although the barman's habit of answering "no problem" to every statement is a bit annoying! The menu is interesting and I enjoyed the scallops. The bar is not manned all the time and I waited for the barman to arrive. A nice experience and specially for... More
