For a taste of the Mediterranean without leaving the West Country look no further than Exeter’s The Conservatory. With huge windows obscured by white blinds, tall exotic plants and Swedish-meets-French countryside painted furniture you almost feel it would be a shame to call in after sunset. But come in for dinner and you’ll find yourself in an intimate and romantic setting perfect for that relaxed dinner to help you forget about bills, work and worries. Sail away on a culinary cruise through Europe as the menu takes you from Britain via France and in to Italy and beyond with plenty of local ingredients to keep the flavours fresh and delicious.

Plesently Surprised

We were saying less than 100yrds from this place so it was especially sweet to have such a good meal. The restaurant was nearly empty and it was Friday night so it lacked somewhat in atmosphere. The food here was absolutely excellent. However, the service wasn't great. I think this may have been down to the fact that it was a busy night and we were on a table in a tiny part of the restaurant so may have been overlooked by accident. Would definitely go again as the food was great.

We went to the Conservatory for the two course set menu lunch which was wonderful. My plaice was well flavoured, and clearly freshly caught. At £17.95 for two courses this is not cheap, but definitely worth it if you have money to spend. Our waitress, Rachel, was lovely and made us feel very welcome. They have lost a star because... Visited the Conservatory last Saturday to celebrate a family 50th Birthday in a party of 12. The food, service and ambiance could not be faulted and I look forward to a return visit in the very near future.

Having been to this place for lunch a while back we went for dinner on a visit to Exeter and enjoyed really imaginative and well cooked food. The building is a bit of a rabbit warren, but that gives it odd little corners with bags of character and the service was friendly and helpful. We were not rushed and allowed... More

Friendly staff, great, local food. Fish was fresh, cooked well with lots of subtle flavours. Fascinating interior, with historic Elizabethan wall panels

This was our second trip to The Conservatory, the booking was for 9pm on a Saturday. Food was as good as we remembered, the Asparagus starter was delicious, shame it was close to 10pm before we were served the starters. Service for the main course was better and the food once again was top notch. The waitress did her best... More

Quirky little restaurant. Very nicely presented and great tasting food. Good choice of fish dishes balanced up with several meat dishes and not a ridiculous price The staff were very friendly.

Had Salmon as starter followed by roast pork belly and sausage as main. My friend got pig cheek and braised beef and she loved it. Not surprisingly good for me but really like the environment and staff there. should try the seafood menu next time.

Away from all the chain restaurants, the conservatory is a little gem. It serves local fresh, tasty food in a relaxed environment.
