Food excellent - service not so

Booked for a Friday evening meal to celebrate the end of January and the food was well up to its usual excellent standard. Was dissaponted by service though - seemed to be forgotten in the bar so when we got to our table the waiter was there with his pad very quickly indeed. Things like not... read more

Michael Canie's in Exeter seves some of the finest cuisine in Exeter. Enjoy cocktails or champagne before fine dining. The menu is excellent, the service is top-notch, and the sommelier was an expert. It is more expensive than some eateries in Exeter...but you get what you pay for. Advice: - The scallops - and an appletini

We had a lovely Sunday lunch at Abode celebrating my mother's birthday. The food was lovely (particularly the mackerel starter) and service within the restaurant was fine. However, I have contacted the hotel directly to bring to their attention the abysmal attitude of the barman working this Sunday in the Champagne Bar. We sat down in the bar at around... More

Having past Michael Caines restaurant at the Abode on a few family trips to Exeter, this time we were without our kids and where able to have a treat lunch. We were warmly greeted and we were early so plenty of tables available. First impressions were good and we had high hopes. Our small table by the door was fine... More

When we went in we found the restaurant to be accepting that we had a baby with us and we're pointed to a table suitable. It took 15 minutes before my partner had to ask if someone was going to take our order. Food was then incorrect and for a chicken ceaser salad this was very disappointing. My partner had... More

Sampled the Prestige Tasting Menu, with wine pairing. It was an absolute delight and thoroughly recommended! With the view of the lit cathedral at night complimented a delicious experience.

We had the tasing menu. No complaints about the food but for this level of price some of the finer points were missing. No amuse bouche. All guests not presented with food at the same time. No palate refresher. Crumbs not cleaned off table. Water glasses not topped up, had to request more water rather than be asked. Generally it... More

we were given a gift certificate for a Table d'hote 3 course meal for two, we sat down at 6pm and the dining room was empty until about 7.15, so we didn't feel rushed, we felt the dining room lacked atmosphere but we were of course there for the food, the chicken liver parfait was excellent but it would have... Both the food and wine package were sublime, we had an amazing experience, great scallop dish, beef was some of the best I've ever had, wines and nine wines really creative and interesting, professional, courteous service - really faultless and I've done a few of these where the restaurants have more than a couple michelins, it's great that it's quite...
