Pretty good food

As a veggie, the options could have been a bit more interesting at such a well reviewed gastro pub. That said, the soup - butter nut squash and desert (wow) sticky toffee pudding were both excellent. They did add a to the main course which made it a less underwhelming which I was pleased about as... read more

Really enjoyed the unassuming service and food. The staff were just right - not over the top, not fussing, not superficial - just right. The food was similarly appropriate - not contorted into unreal piles with messy sauces purportedly decorating the plate. The wine list was excellent and I was able to get a very good Australian shiraz. Prices are... More

We went here because it was recommended as having a Michelin star. But we were quite surprised at this when we went: it seemed to be just an alright pub. The wine menu was limited and very expensive for what was on offer. The food menu was okay but again quite limited. I had fish, which came with ..... chips.... More

This place was recommended by our hosts at Woodhayes Country House, a few minutes down the road, and we weren't disappointed. Every course was wonderful, especially the steak, and service was exceptional. Paul was the consummate host and was even kind enough to run us home at the end of the evening as there were no taxis to be found.

Just popped into here on the off chance. Great food served with great attention to detail by very welcoming staff. Definitely recommend and will return again in the near future.

We stayed near the restaurant last week. The restaurant was recommended to us by the hotel we were staying at and we had such a wonderful meal we went back a second time. Like me my 10 year old son can be quite fussy, the owner and the chef happily adapted the menu to his liking. The food was wonderful... More

We visited while staying overnight in Exeter, after reading TripAdvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. The standards in all aspects were excellent, from decor to service and food quality. The price for this standard was reasonable and I would certainly visit again if in the area. Although not familiar with the location and it was a very dark March night,... More

Lovely tasting menu, we did the one without wine. Went for a birthday treat and really enjoyed it. They put a lot of effort into the presentation and I would go again on a special occasion.

Our family took us to the Jack in the Green to celebrate our Golden Wedding - eldest son's review below. We can only echo his feelings..... The welcome was warm and friendly; our waiter - son of the family I gather - never stopped smiling and was professional and efficient throughout. We live in France, so UK restaurants have a... More
