Good pub with decent food

Over the years we have see-sawed between the Rising Sun and the Victory for lunch in St Mawes. Both have typically been good, but with the occasional less good meal. Dogs are allowed in the bar (not upstairs). We didn't notice any bad smells (that another reviewer mentioned). Inside is OK... read more

First visit to The Victory. Wanted more than the coffee shops could offer.I had Cod and chips and J had a roast lamb dinner. All good and served with a smile. Though busy the service was quick enough. We chose to sit upstairs and then had a drink on the verandah as it was a warm day. Will definitley return.

This was our first visit to the Victory Inn and was very pleased, after looking about for a dog friendly place we came across the Victory, i went in and asked if we could bring our dog in and was told that was not a problem and toldwe could sit anywhere which was good as sometimes in other places you have... Our second visit here and unlike the first, this was not a success. It was a Thursday, which is two curries for £8.95 each. I started with a couple of pints of Doombar and asked to be shown to our table. We were shown upstairs into a long un-inviting room with no atmosphere. Leading of from it was a balcony... More

The Victory Inn situated in the centre of beautiful St. Mawes was a real find. The staff were really accomodating making us feel so welcome, the food whilst simple, was fresh and delicious, and the service excellent. Highly recommended,we will return.

There aren't many places to have a drink and a bite to eat in St Mawes. The Victory serves fantastic beer and the staff were very keen to please. Unfortunately the food was underwhelming; and not cheap. We ordered medium rare cooked steak which was served well done. The fish pie was also disappointing, lacking flavour. I think we should... Four of us visited for dinner while on holiday in St Mawes. The standard bar menu is quite limited (steak, burger, fish and chips etc.) but there was a great choice of specials available, with an emphasis on fish and seafood. Three of us had specials (hake, sole and crab) and one had the fish and chips from the menu.... More

came across this pub whilst walking in cornwall. We were given a warm welcome by the landlady/owner, had a very nice lunch washed down with a couple of pints of Rustler cider. Enjoyed it so much we came back the following day with friends for dinner. Lovely staff - nothing was too much trouble. All in all a great little... More

We’ve holidayed in St Mawes for several years but for various reasons have never actually dined in the Victory until now. We tend to use the Rising Sun but various reviewers etc have said that the Victory is better so we thought we really should give it a go…..which is why I’m disappointed to have to give it a rare... We popped in on steak night to take advantage of the deal. The girls had the ribeye steaks and I had the fishermans pie. All very tasty. My dear lady wife then had the cheeseboard (which I helped her to eat) and the lovely daughter had something chocolatey. My pint of Doombar, though well kept, was a little on the... More
