Good pub with decent food

Over the years we have see-sawed between the Rising Sun and the Victory for lunch in St Mawes. Both have typically been good, but with the occasional less good meal. Dogs are allowed in the bar (not upstairs). We didn't notice any bad smells (that another reviewer mentioned). Inside is OK... read more

We’ve holidayed in St Mawes for several years but for various reasons have never actually dined in the Victory until now. We tend to use the Rising Sun but various reviewers etc have said that the Victory is better so we thought we really should give it a go…..which is why I’m disappointed to have to give it a rare... We popped in on steak night to take advantage of the deal. The girls had the ribeye steaks and I had the fishermans pie. All very tasty. My dear lady wife then had the cheeseboard (which I helped her to eat) and the lovely daughter had something chocolatey. My pint of Doombar, though well kept, was a little on the... More

We visited this pub a few years ago and it was really busy with a good atmosphere. Visited again whilst on a trip to St Mawes. The staff were very unwelcoming. We arrived at about 2.15 on a Sunday. (Lunch advertised as served until 2.30) Asked for a sandwich, she had to go away and ask if it was possible.... More

Steak night on Monday and two rib eye steaks for £20. We had to try and we were not disappointed. The steaks were both cooked as we liked them and were accompanied by chips, peas, mushrooms, and a fried tomatoe. We had the victory toffee pudding for afters, which went down well. All in all, good value for money and...Doombar... More

Good old fashioned pub. Visited for fish and chips on Friday night - 2 meals for £12, and Sunday lunch £6.95 per head. Really good value. Drinks a bit pricey though

We called in for a pre dinner drink as the outside is so quaint and inviting sadly the buck stops at the door as the atmosphere is so unfriendly and the staff do not make you feel welcome also the place doesn't smell very nice

The food was pleasant, however the service was very poor and the roast pork was served without crackling. A great mistake.

Called into the Victory Inn on a recent holiday to St Mawes. The Fish and chips which is a Friday speciality was absolutely fantastic. We were sat upstairs where the atmosphere is not quite as nice as the downstairs bar restaurant so would advise booking to be seated in the bar. If I had one criticism it would be to... More

The pub is just off the main street and is small low ceilinged, divided as a bar with floorboards, and a dining area with carpet. Decoration is mainly sailing pictures from 1950s and though the decor is uptodate the place feels old and homely. We got a welcome, including our dog, and some good beer. We had some very acceptable... More
