We visited St Mawes and liked the area so we decided to stay and eat there. We came across The Watch House and thought we would give it a try. Upon entering we were asked if we had a reservation (6pm?) by a surly waiter and as we hadn't we were told we could only have a table in the... More

Me and my wife ate here and found it to be a most excellent neighbourhood bistro/restaurant. Beautifully cooked seafood and a very moreish vegetable fritto misto... gorgeous burger and excellent chips. Who needs pictures on the walls when the food is so spot on? The wines are well considered and there's some good new world kit to choose from. I... More

We had a takeaway earlier this week. The fish and chips were plentiful, but awful. We threw most away. I ask for a small bottle of pop - about 60 /70p worth - £2.20. I told them not to bother. You have been warned.

Can't believe some of the negative reviews on here. The Watch House is a superb restaurant with a perfect setting overlooking the harbour. The waiting team were friendly and accommodating (my wife made some minor adjustments to her meal) and the food (for 6 of us) was superb; two fish and chips, two fish curries, a burger and a chicken... I am not one to moan but we had take away fish and chips last night and they were nothing to write home about. They were cold and the chips in particular were very dry. Very disappointing for a take -away that always has a queue outside!!

While visiting St.Mawes after a few years I took my family to the now Updated Watch House. Firstly how disappointed we all were at this Soulless place, no character, bland, the only colour in the place were a few scruffy flags draped over the lights. We were aware that beautiful St.Mawes was hit hard by the winter storms earlier in... More

I appreciate that it is high season in Cornwall at the moment, but we did have to wait about 20 minutes for our fish and chips after ordering them. It was also quite pricey but I expected that of an expensive town like St. Mawes. The food was great though- standard fish and chips so no problems there!

Myself and my new husband have just got back from our mini moon in St Mawes - we had been staying at The Idle Rock and fancied to try one off the local eating hotspots! We had fish and chips from the very quaint little fish and chip shop (part off the establishment) and to quote my husband 'they were... More

A good option with an okay menu but nothing outstanding. Needs to have a bit more of an edge given the location and the options nearby. Fish curry was and interesting option, great flavour but not sure you want to be fighting a crab claw in curry sauce?

Visited this so called fish and chip shop Thursday evening to be told by the server they had run out of chips. Obviously poor management and the server not too bothered, no sorry or any sort of apology. This was just before 8. How bad in a tourist area!

Thank you for your review. We are very sorry about last Thursday's chip situation. We peel, cut, steam, bake, and then fry all of our chips ourselves to ensure the best chips we can offer. Unfortunately, this means that occasionally in the summer months we run low after a very busy day. On this day in question we didn't get... More
