Five years since my last visit and still as good

I last visited the Porthminster Beach Cafe when I was on holiday in St Ives in 2010. It was a blazingly hot July day and I had an amazing lunch on the sun terrace with my partner. Fast forward five years to a warmish Monday evening in July, dinner on the same terrace, this time alone (partner... read more

The perfect location for what should have a perfect lunch. The reality was the quality of food did not match the location and it was over-priced. It survives on the tourist who, as they are on holiday, will get ripped-off but console themselves with the very special location. I can't image too many locals using it.

We booked a table and when we arrived were greeted and seated beach front table. Great menu and choice of wines. We had some fresh bread and squid to nibble before our mains arrived. Hake with butter bean and chorizo cassoulet, monkfish curry, kids fresh pesto pasta. All washed down with a tasty Albariño. Reasonable prices, friendly staff. Delicious food!!!!... More

Once you have had the fish and chips you will never go to a chip shop again.... We go here 4-5 times per year (for the last 5 years) and always have a perfect time, as a couple or with our kids. All the food is stand out not a bad dish on the menu. The Staff give just the... More

The Porthminster is right in the middle of the promenade overlooking the beaches and the harbor. We were fortunate to have one of the few outside tables overlooking the view. It just happened to be low tide so it was fun to watch the water and the boats rise as the water came back. The service was very good but... More

Only ever had tea and scones from here but it's real tea and the scones are really nice with the jam and clotted cream. Yum. If you fancy going for dinner you have to book.

Like other reviewers have noted this is not just any old 'cafe' - it is a lovely restaurant serving tasty, fresh and generously sized meals. We visited on a windy lunchtime expecting sandwiches and soups, and were faced with meals of a quality that I've certainly never experienced in any other 'caff'! Our party enjoyed a seafood linguine, seafood chowder... More

The view was amazing! You were looking over the beach. Also it was the best fish and chips I'd ever had! These reasons are why I'm rating 5*
