To please one of our group who is a Doc Martin fan we visited and were able to get seats on the balcony - very pleasantly surprised by the excellent food - had expected typical bar grub but instead a menu with a good selection - had the local fish and others burgers - all well cooked and nicely presented... Visited here on a mid week lunchtime with the prospect of eating here. But the service in just asking for drinks was shocking. We were completely ignored by the bar staff who were getting told off by their boss about something trivial. Time and place for disciplinary issues certainly not at your bar. Filthy communal areas. We decided not to... More

We rated this pub very highly on our visit two years ago due to good service and fantastic fish and chips and were really looking forward to a repeat experience this year. How disappointed we were! The service was brusque at best and the fish and chips was of poor quality with uncooked chips, tarter sauce overwhelmed with garlic and... More

Our visit to the Golden Lion was a big disappointment. The pub is in the perfect location and you would expect that with that kind of opportunity the owners would embrace the opportunity rather than abuse their situation. The food we received was equivalent to what you would expect to get at a 2 for 1 only at double the... More

Hard to imagine a filthier pub, although for some bizarre reason known only to themselves, the bar staff decided, after cranking up the music and following a loud discussion concerning their exploits from the evening before, to clean the brass around the pumps with brasso (probably the first time in a decade) as we were being served our food, nice... Have been here loads of times before finding it a warm welcoming hostelry especially in quieter times. So this weekend we were heading there again but found that the once lovely outside area was closed off, contained (somehow) an old horse trailer and piles of rubbish. The place was so filthy outside we didn't bother going in. A real shame... More

I love pubs, and from the outside this looks like a hidden gem. On entering it holds full of promise, very traditional cornish, wooden floors, and a lovely balcony over looking the harbour. But, it lacks so much that makes it a real disappointment. The beer is not very well kept, although it's range of cornish beers is good. The... More

This is a pub and the food was pub quality. Ok but nothing special. The service went off the boil and our desserts didn't turn up but it was alright for one evening of our stay.

This is a basic pub in a beautiful village. My partner was disappointed with his beer which was not nearly as good as other Cornish beers he had enjoyed during our holiday. The bar maid was friendly.

We visited the Golden Lion several times during our stay in Port Isaac, we ate only once and found the food to be of good quality but a bit pricey. Overall the pub needs a clean although it is an old building, the manager needs to be a bit more hands on and make sure every aspect of his business... More
