Description: Penzances Bakehouse Restaurant is a real Cornish gem, not to mention something of a surprise. In amongst the twee Cornwall tourist traps The Bakehouse stands out as a venue for the modern, young and funky. With an uber-contemporary interior, all stainless steel, clubby atmosphere and blocks of bright colour, The Bakehouse also offers the holy grail of seaside dining the terrace, perfect for al fresco summer meals. Using the best Cornish produce Chef Andy Carr, well known in the area, fuses the traditional British with summery Mediterranean and International influences so its bangers and mash on a cold winters evening but locally caught fresh fish on a sunny August afternoon.

Arrived without having made a reservation - others in area we hadn't needed to, but this place was full! Very accommodating staff asked if we weren't in a rush - as service may be slow we could have table that had come free. As it turned out service was not slow at all, nor rushed and even though they were... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Bakehouse, the food was delicious and the staff and atmosphere first rate. We do not often visit the same restaurant twice in a trip the only reason we did not make a second visit here was that it was fully booked.

I ate here last weekend with a friend to celebrate my birthday. The food was top class (we're still drooling over the slow cooked pork and crackling dish which we had!) and the service excellent - attentive without being obtrusive. It is so rare to find a place with both a relaxed atmosphere and high quality food - this is... More

Located in the historic Chapel Street, this smart, modern restaurant is located down a short alley and easy to miss. It is however well worth the effort of locating and booking is essential particularly in the busy summer. Local Cornish produce, a fairly small menu ensures that everything is freshly cooked. Great service and eye for detail provided by the... More

We ate at The Bakehouse Restaurant after reading TA reviews. We were not disappointed. It was our waitress's first night but she was friendly, efficient and obviously well trained - you wouldn't have guessed it was her first night. Downstairs was full - pretty good for a wet Tuesday evening - so we ate upstairs. The restaurant itself is spacious,... More

I returned alone, the night after eating at the Bakehouse, with my wife. So thoroughly enjoyable was my first visit, that I determined to return alone to make notes. Here are my findings. Though I was alone and obviously, what I admit to looking, an old man, I was treated with the same respect as everyone else. The food could... More

Another lovely evening at The Bakehouse. Delicious food as always (my husband said he would have loved the calamari starter as a main course it was so good!). We both had succulent steaks for our mains. Good to see the same friendly and attentive staff again.

Myself and girlfriend were staying in Penzance for a week (At the Artist Residence Hotel) and they recommended the Bakehouse for an evening meal. (We actually ate there twice) The restaurant is accessed via a little alley way that is lit with coloured light, the restaurant is modern and softly lit with funky art work by a local artist on... What a delightful restaurant, the staff were welcoming and eager to please. The wine list had plenty of variation and the menu offered plenty of choice. I went for the fish of the day, cod served on a purée of sweet potato with a side of seasonal veg. My colleague went for the sirloin steak (rare) as he is French,... More

We had visited The Bakehouse about three years ago and had a very good meal then. We decided to go there for a meal to celebrate my husband's birthday. We have unfortunately recently had some, what can only be called, very poor meals, at other local eating establishments and especially when it is a birthday you want to be happy... More
