Been going to the Mermaid for 20+ years as part of our holidays to Newquay every year (1 to 3 visits per year) and classed it as our local. For the first time we were very dissapointed with the food and service and can only echo the recent reviews. My wife ordered her favourite dish at the mermaid, ribs which... More

We have been to the Mermaid many times in the past and have enjoyed many winter nights sheltering from storms with a good pint after a windy walk on the beach or Porth Island. However last week we decided to pop in for a beer and evening meal and were greatly disappointed. Much of the menu was off and so... More

We were in a need for a quickish dinner - what a big mistake to come here. The food (only ploughman's lunch) took over and hour to arrive, by which time it was too chilly to sit outside. The place is definitely more for boozing after a day on the beach than enjoying a meal in peace. I agree with... More

Great food, great views, and dogs allowed inside - a real bonus for when the night air gets a bit chill later on

I had fish and chips and my partner had fish pie. I had to send mine back initially to have a huge amount of runny mushy peas removed. When it came back there were still remnants of pea despite it apparently being "fresh chips and a fresh plate". I overlooked this as I was very hungry and tried to eat... More

We were not impressed with The Mermaid Inn. The food wasn't that great and it didn't feel very family friendly even though they advertise that families are welcome.

The food here is average pub grub with big potions. The pub itself is in dire need of a make over. With such a great location it seems a waste, even just painting the outside may make it more inviting, as dirty yellow walls and blue windows are so 1970s.

I went to the Mermaid Inn for the Sunday Carvery with my family last October, after we saw the restaurant while playing on the beach. We didn't not have reservations and we had a large group ( ten people), but we managed to grab a few tables. That said, the carver is popular, so making reservations is a very good... More
