A group of friends visited this bar on the canal in Chester. An old warehouse with outside seating along the canal. A superb set of beers with guest ales and a wide selection of good wines, cocktails on request. A substantial menu at reasonable prices, just a bit different, try the marmite potatoes or a Sunday lunch special, you will... More

My partner and I visited the artichoke whilst visiting chester today. The establishment itself is nice, with a wide range of ales and other beverages. However, the staff are uninviting and the place smells a bit of stale "last night" beer. Ok, just not great.

Why is Artichoke our family favourite? Well we are a family with older 'children' and we like it for being chilled and relaxed and not full of toddlers with crayons - sorry! Been there, done that and when you grow out of it you don't want to go back. I like the gins, my husband likes the wines, our son... More

Booked for a Sunday teatime to celebrate my Wife's birthday with family and Grandchildren allowing us 2 hours before 'the families welcome' time limit finishes at 7!! As it turned out 2 hours wasn't enough time to enjoy the many delights on offer! The choice of drinks is amazing regardless of what you like to drink and the Sunday menus... More

We stopped by Artichoke after a long day of moving with no reservation and we were still seated immediately anyway. We enjoyed a cold beer and cider and then ordered two items we had not yet tried at the restaurant. We had Duck Breast with carrots and green beans and Sea Bass. They were both just so good that I... This restaurant is set in an old mill which adds a charm of it's own, you can enjoy drink at the side of the canal or at bar. Food potions are large, well presented and good. Enjoy a drink from wide choice of beers they have on tap. The staff are friendly and helpful, it's a lovely place to relax... More

Made a telephone booking for a family birthday meal for 6.30. When we arrived were told that children weren't allowed in the building after 7pm so we would have to leave. Children are 11,9 and 7 so not unruly toddlers. Made to feel uncomfortable and as if we had done something wrong. Not told on booking that children not welcome.... More

i'm am sorry about this unfortunate incident. i am confused how you quote us as stating "family friendly" which must only of come from our website without fully quoting the website - "family friendly until 7pm". in big letters. if you had been previously you may of seen the sign on the entrance which states the same. Artichoke is a... More

A lovely setting next to the canal with some outside seating too. The food was very nice, well presented and reasonably priced. They have a good range of drinks with plenty of beers on tap and probably the biggest selection of gin I have ever seen. It can be busy at peak times so you will need to book a... More
