Great welcoming place

Beautiful building and very welcoming staff. Food was lovely and a wide choice of specialty beers. A great place to watch the football with the family.

I love this pub and wish it was my local ! I've been here at various times of the day\night and always find the staff welcoming. They have a fantastic selection of beers which is difficult to find these days in some of the other bars in Chester. Food is great too - love their proper burgers - real hearty... More

We went here as a group of six with diverse tastes and had an excellent lunchtime meal , nicely served, helpful staff and traditional surroundings. One of the best real hamburgers I have had for a long time . Good large portions of everything and good value . Priced to suit most people and a kiddies menu too . Good... More

For a visiting Canadian friend like Kathleen this was a no-brainer. This is where she wanted to go for an evening meal. An historic 17th century black and white half-timbered town house that changed use to become a traditional English inn going on 300 years ago. At one time it would have been the first inside the city walls after... More

I visited this pub for a Sunday lunch and ordered 2 courses - the pea soup and the beef dinner. Both courses were HUGE portions and absolutely delicious, I can't complain. Service was quick (but not too quick!) and staff were friendly. I've only knocked one point off as two of the starters were unavailable at the time as they... More

If you fancy a burger in chester - this is the place to go! Lots of choice, quality ingredients and very substantial. They put the burgers in Hickory's to shame! Furthermore, the service is always quick and friendly. However, whilst the beer is okay (there is certainly a lot of choice and they even have their own 'oktoberfest'), it never... More

Well worth diverting from a stroll around the Chester Walls. The interior oozes history and the staff are welcoming. The room on the first floor is stunning.

Visited for the first time without knowing anything about this place. We both ordered burgers - one chicken, pulled pork and bacon the other the bourbon beef brisket with bacon and cheese. They were REALLY good and along with the chips was a good portion. A nice touch was the choice of fat or skinny chips with a choice of... More
