Lovely pub near to the city walls and the river. Tasty food and good selections of food and drinks. Dog-friendly! They bring a bowl of water over everytime. Really lovely to eat good food, drink good drinks and have the dog. Lovely atmosphere.

Lovely old pub adjacent to the city walls at Bridgegate. We ducked in for lunch, while walking the walls, when it started raining and had a great meal by the fire. Good pub food - the sausages with gravy and mash are highly recommended. My daughter was very impressed that they had a vege burger on the menu, which she... More

I love this place. I am a Chester girl with grown up children and the Bear and Billet is a fabulous, friendly, homely and cozy public house which serves some of the best cuisine in Chester. No exaggeration! The burgers are out of this world and the rest of the menu is varied and sounds gorgeous. Great place to watch... More

Visited the B&B on a bright crisp December 28th. Lovely decor, lovely staff, lovely beers, lovely Christmas tree, great weather = brilliant visit. Staff happy to recommend drinks and food, table service with a smile, had food envy when the boys on the table next to us received their burgers whilst I was having my (admittedly very nice) homemade soup.... We often visit this pub with our dogs, it is both friendly, welcoming and a nice mix of people. Over this festive break we have eaten tasty meals and enjoyed some good cask ales as well as getting a nice warm with the real fire and each time we get the same great experience. Food delicious, good choice and not... More

Well, maybe that's a slight exaggeration but it did seem to be 'middle-aged gentleman's night' when we visited! It is a good boozer with a decent atmosphere. You cant beat a real fire (even a little one) and the beer choice is great.

Went here for a meal and checked online that the 20% off deal on Thursdays was still on offer. It said it was. Arrived and wall poster confirmed the offer. Food was fine but when we got the bill no reduction. Queried it and was told the offer didn't apply in December. Could have insisted but paid the full amount.... More

Thank you for visiting our pub recently and I'm glad you enjoyed the food you had. Just to clarify a few points to your claim that you believe the bear and billet has poor management, we started a deal on Thursday evening which offered customers 20% off main meals we have been running the offer since October, since the first... 6 of us ate here to watch the football before a birthday weekend away at Alton Towers. Pre-booked table near TV. Food great - roast dinners, burgers, soup were all ordered and devoured. Service great - staff always friendly. Handy location and normally easy to park nearby. Will definitely return.
