Great old pub

Great old pub to have a beer by a roaring fire. Even better they served Camden Hells lager which I love. Lots of character and a nice place to refuel.

We popped in to sample the local ale and to rest our weary feet. The outside promised a lot for a history buff like me. Unfortunately the inside didn't quite measure up to what I was expecting. In my opinion the inside had been 'sanitised' in that it didn't appear to retain too much of an 'original' appearance. I appreciate... More

Sat upstairs and had a friendly waitress take our drinks order then our food order. Normally you order food at the bar, so this was helpful. We each had a diferent meal choice, it wasn't too... My wife and called at the Bear and Billet for lunch on a quiet weekday and arrived just after 12pm, the pub does have a nice atmosphere and there were a few diners. As a real ale drinker ( and I know we can be a pain) I enquired if they had recently served my choice of beer as beer... More

Sorry you didn't fully enjoy your time at the Bear & Billet, just to clarify on couple of points you made on your review. Regarding pulling through some beer from the line as stated that day each line had half a pint roughly pulled through at 11:30am to make a fresh batch of batter for the fish, I was not... More

On a cold tuesday evening in Chester the sight of a real coal fire and a vacant table just by its side was a welcome find. Really quaint pub, lots of atmosphere, and friendly staff all made for a pleasant evening. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants down Lower Bridge Street but this is a listed building with loads... More
