We were staying in Wicken and disappointed to read so many bad reviews about the only local pub, but we still went to try it for a light lunch on our first day, and were pleasantly surprised. Pretty pub, attractive inside, a selection of beers, quite busy and friendly efficient service. This time we only had sandwiches but visited later... More

Many thanks for your positive review it is very much appreciated. It is such a shame that a few out of the 100s of customer we serve each week who did not enjoy their time with us decide to use this website to state it rather than tell us with any issues on the day. We strife to produce good... More

For a beautiful looking pub, the food is a real let down. My husband and I visited this pub for our anniversary dinner and should have just had a meal at home. It was a very disappointing meal.

On previous occasions, I've been impressed by the standard of food, service, surroundings (and said so in earlier reviews), but today's visit was a trifle disappointing: the service improved (even if they didn't wait to see / hear if we were mid-sentence!) but the initial 'welcome' left us wondering if we were intruding; both my gratin & ramekin dishes had... The only positive about the Maid's Head is the setting in the pretty village of Wicken. The food is overpriced, outdated and inedible. I chose scampi and chips at £11.95 - well above the average for 'pub grub'. The food was presented without finesse and one could see from looking at the plate, even before a mouthful was eaten, that... More

We wasn't rushed to order but the food how very disappointing , I had stroganoff - didn't even look like stroganoff - the only thing that resembled it was strip's of beef well about 4 small strips 7 green beans and... We met friends there in sept for a Monday evening meal, it was very good and value for money. Will definanatly go back again. The girl serving was very pleasant. Clean and comfortable. No negative comments at all. Give it a try.

We went here with the family where we found the staff very friendly and accommodating. The place itself was also quite nice and our first impressions were of a good country pub. Unfortunately the food didn't follow this trend. The food of the highest quality was definitely to be found on the starter menu. Sadly this was to be accompanied... More

Lunch with ex work colleagues Welcoming staff, no rush to order food. Staff very accommodating when advised that member of our party had a food allergy - chef able to provide alternatives to the menu with out any problems. An extensive menu, with plenty of choices for all, in fact it was difficult to come to a final decision. I... More
