There are three good reasons for going to Wicken: Wicken Fen (NT) with its bird-rich wetland under enormous East Anglian skies; the 1813 smock mill still grinding flour in the wind blowing across the table-flat fens; and The Maids Head. The Maid’s Head sits comfortably at the back of the village green in the way that village pubs are supposed... More

Booked a table for 14 + toddler for a Christmas Lunch on the 29th Dec. We couldn't have been more impressed with the service and food we received. At evey stage of the meal from drink at the bar through to coffee's and mince pies the staff could not have been more professional. The food was spot on and the... More

Well presented food, very pleasant environment, good service as we had not booked but we're quickly found a window table. Slightly upmarket prices.

A group of us recently had a meal here, the roast was only warm, gravy barely covered the bottom of the plate (why not put a gravy boat on the table) why after writing the order down do they forget not only a main course but also a Dessert !! surely that can't be to difficult to get the order correct ?... We held our little girls "Mad Hatters tea party" at the Pub, Gill & Stuart were absolutely fantastic! They we so accommodating, letting me go in the night before to decorate the place, and staying till the early hours to get it finished. On the day, the whole team did a SUPERB job with the food! The staff ran around... More

... and nobody edges you out of the door, even at 11pm midweek! I've visited here several times, now, and what impresses me most is the service (though the food's good too!). You're welcomed on arrival, made comfortable with drinks... and then left to order in your own good time, when it's easy to catch a waitress' eye. There's none... More

Had lunch here four times, the last two were "poor" We thought we would take friends here, as it was open. The men had baked potatoe, one had beans, cheese, bacon and the other had chilli. My friend had the soup, said that was rather nice, I had the BBQ chicken baguette , had to pay extra for a very... More

This pub is a very pretty looking building, with its thatched roof it looks like something off a chocolate box and is situated on the green in the centre of Wicken. We visited here for a weekday lunch, everything is homecooked and gluten free, if you require it, which is a big plus for us as my other half has... More

Two of our party had been before and said it was good. We had a table booked but when we arrived we weren't greeted in a friendly or welcoming manner. One of the beers was OK but the Doombar wasn't as well kept. The food was good though although there was nothing outstanding. We did feel that at the end... More

My first real meal in a restaurant I regularly drive by... and I should have been before! We were welcomed by the owner and our reserved table took note of our request for a quiet one! The menu caters for all tastes, my stir fry duck being gorgeous. The desserts vary from the decadent to the traditional... very nice too...... More
