We were staying in Wicken and our host suggested we try a restaurant that shall remain anonymous. Well, this involved a drive of about 30 minutes and we then found that the menu was totally unappealing to our palates. So, we drove back and went to the Maid’s Head! OK, it’s called the Maid’s Head in Ely but it’s in... More

Stopped here on way through and had a lovely sunday lunch. The service was good and quite quick for the food to arrive. I had the roast ham with veggies etc and was great, boyfriend had roast beef which looked nice, if a little fatty. Was nice to sit outside where it was quiet. The place is nice and clean,... More

We have just been for Sunday lunch at the pub for Father's Day. We are not from the area so we used the good pub food guide, which didn't have much of a review (in terms of detail) so followed up with tripadvisor reviews). The first 8 reviews looked great. The pub website looked nice and the location lovely so... More

It's been almost a year since my first visit, and although I was very much impressed then, my experience today was surpassed. A faultless Sunday roast, with all the trimmings, cooked perfectly and eaten in the sunshine on the green with a delicious pint of Oakham ale. The staff here are very welcoming and friendly, the ale selection small, but... More

I only dropped in to pass time, waiting for family members to meet up with, locally, but my bowl of chips was put straight in the fryer, when I said I was pushed for time. There was a lovely atmosphere inside, and 2 clean, well-maintained garden areas outside. My chips were brought to me, despite it being a busy Saturday... More

We had travelled a long way and stopped, with our dog Lottie, for lunch. We are always happy to take the dog to the garden but this time we did not need to. Our dog was welcome in the bar, with water provided as well as a warm welcome. If you prefer dog free then the restaurant is well laid... More

This was my first time visiting the Maid's Head pub and I was greeted with a very warm welcome. The staff are very friendly and the food is fantastic. The pub is a very nice size and has a lovely restaurant area with a great fire that adds warmth and a cosy atmosphere. All in all, I am very pleased... More

This was my first time going to The Maids Head. I found the atmosphere to be very welcoming, happy to let in dogs and is kept to a very good standard of cleanliness. Additionally, the menu is good and varied. The pub does an amazing job as the food is locally sourced, I found the meat from Spinny Abbey Farm... More

Three of us recently dined at the Maid's Head and enjoyed it very much. The welcome, service, imaginative food and prices were all good. 3 courses, a bottle of wine and coffee all for about £25 per head. Ignore early reports as under new management since September. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

I travel past the Maids Head (not in Ely but in Wicken, 6 miles to the south) quite often during the summer, and calling in for lunch or dinner is an experience I always happily anticipate. The building is a chocolate box picture from the outside, and the inside doesn't disappoint either. It's warm and feels cosy without being cramped.... More
