The New Vaults is a snack and cocktail bar nestled under the streets of Central Cambridge. After 15 years in the same place, the venue was bough in 2014 by two young entrepreneurs from London, who since then have set about updating the venue, and a turning it around. It has been redecorated throughout, and now features warm lighting, comfy sofas, and even backgammon tables and ping pong. The Vaults has always been famous for it's cocktails, and nothing has changed here. The menu is short and focused, but the skilled bar tenders are more than happy to make you anything you can't see, or even create you a custom creation. Alongside the cocktails are the beers, wines and ciders. There are 8 different types of beers on offer, which often change, but always include a variety of pale ales, lagers and even a few wheat beers. The food now comes in the form of Gourmet Hot Dogs. The team offer up such creations as The Umami (Smoked Sausage, Tomato Salsa, Olive Oil & Garlic Chives) and the Fat Cat (Frankfurter, Diced Gherkins, Blow Torched Cheese on Ciabatta), all of which have been named after the different venues from around the world that have inspired them. Sides such as Sweet Potato Fries, or Skinny Rosemary Chips tie it all together. Open from 5pm on Weekdays and 12 noon on the Weekends, it's a great place to take the weight of your feet, try something new, and meet friends. There are also a few rooms available for private hire, perfect for events and birthday parties.

Hen do cocktail making

Visited for cocktail making as a group of 13. Ben was great at entertaining us and provided a lot of information as well as the cocktail making. We tried several cocktails and got a chance to make two each. They were all delicious. We didn't drink in the main bar but it looked very cosy and like... read more

Fabulous cocktails...mixed by someone who knows what they are doing and also isn't watering them down in happy hour... Great hotdogs to soak up the alcohol...relaxed in a sofa ...what a perfect evening.

This is a basement bar and when happy hour is on the cocktails are reduced. It is comfortable to sit either at the bar or at the many tables.

This bar/restaurant is hidden between two shops. It is a single door leading to the basement. A very chilled atmosphere with dimmed lighting and background music. Very little mobile phone signal so it forces conversation. A wide range of high quality spirits, beers and ales. There is a simple menu to order food from. Not overly expensive unless the top... Down steps from the entrance, which is pretty much hidden, you'll find the underground 'vaults' It has an ecletic feel about it, a modern feel with plenty of the ubiquitous distresed leather chairs and sofa's. A good selection of cocktails and beers, with a very generous happy hour which lasts from 5:00 pm until 9:00pm; well on the week night... More

Private hire of half the venue for my party. Me and my 40 mates had the best night. A great venue, cool decor but still room for quirkly bits in all the right places. We really enjoyed the cocktails, table footie and lush sweet potatoe fries! And the staff are so accomodating. We're already missing Frank (we nicknamed the fox).... More

This is a long-standing institution in Cambridge which I have visited many times over the years. They often have great live music. Came here for cocktails with a friend and had a good time. Very friendly staff and a great selection of cocktails. It's underground, so don't come here for people watching. It's more of a cool, vibe speakeasy. Great... More

We went back to the vaults for a cocktail class for my aunties hen do due to being so impressed after going this time last year. Once again we could not have been more impressed with everything in this place. Fantastic correspondence with Sophie (general manager) to book the cocktail making class. Everything was organised when we arrived and we... More

The food was good and the prices reasonable The environment was nice and different. I was not impressed, neither disssatisfied though. I would just prefer if the venue was a bar only or a restaurant only one, in order to keep things separate. The bar is nice and cozy for small gatherings or couples.

Outstanding. So chilled, great food, yummy drinks and great vibe. Service was excellent and there's a happy hour also. One to visit again.
