Amazing start but fell away a little at the end.

Food- Pre dinner tasters were lovely, interesting and fun. We went for the ten course tasting which was identical to the seven but with three extra dishes. One of those extra ones was the sweetbread dish which was absolutely superb. The haddock starter as well as the red Mullet were also excellent... read more

Having checked out the Midsummer House website I was excited at the prospect of dining there. With two Michelin stars the expectations were high. This is no ordinary restaurant and the anticipation builds as you approach across Midsummer Common. You are greeted at the door and shown to your seat, at which point the gastronomic theatre performance begins. At every... More

Readers of my reports will know I am not prone to awarding FIVE STARS for any attraction, but in this case there is no alternative. Upon arrival there is the chance to be served cocktails in the small first floor lounge area, if desired. There is also a Private Dining Room with toilets on this floor. The main dining area... The food was very good, but not quite great. Perhaps this was because we were distracted by the staff, and the service, that did not do justice to the place. Some seemed decidedly inexperienced - which is such a pity. Our wine waiter was quite stern, bordering on hostile.

Dining is a combination of ambience, service and food. This meal was the absolute best of all three. Starting with the easy bit - the food. You come to a 2* restaurant and you expect the highest standard. This exceeded expectations. Every mouthful was perfect. No dish had anything superfluous, and no dish needed anything extra. Each dish was full... More

We've been wanting to eat at Midsummer for ages and finally got round to booking a day out to Cambridge with foodie friends. I can only describe our meal as average which is disappointing for a per person bill of £220, we did opt for the cheaper wine flight. Lots of truffle and mushroom action. No real wow flavours but... My first time at a michelin restaurant....I would say to everyone like me to be careful because you might became addicted to it! It is simply a joy and a pleasure for people who truly love food. I am not afraid to say that it was the very first time in UK that food tasted like food. We closed our... More

Having been to Midsummer House before, last summer, I knew before I arrived that I was in for an amazing experience, and my second visit definitely didn't disappoint. Upon arrival, my friend and I were welcomed into the lounge area, where we were offered champagne, an amuse bouche and canapés. It was a brilliant start - the lounge area was... More

Midsummer House is a lovely restaurant found on the banks of the River Cam with the perfect size dining area made even better with the addition of a conservatory the windows of which bring the outside in and fills the dining area with light. We found ourselves lucky enough to be seated in the conservatory overlooking the lovely garden and... More

An amazing experience. Customer service exemplary. Food so gorgeous that I don't think I actually have the words to describe it. From the moment we were seated in the beautiful upstairs lounge overlooking the river and being served something yummy involving gin and cucumber with a sublime nibble of something served on a crispy fish skin we knew the evening...
