I wish this was my local!

My husband and I were in the area and were recommended lunch at The Blue Lion, and what a great lunch it was. Non pretentious, well prepared, fresh food with great beer too. The chef clearly has a creative soul yet doesn't take away from the food at all;. I wish this was my local!!

We booked a table a few days before to ensure a table for Saturday lunchtime; we were pleased we did as the pub was very busy - a very good sign! As the corned beef hash was mentioned by a previous reviewer I decided to have that after having the wild mushroom arancini as a starter. Other members of my... More

I love the sense of humour of the chef at the Blue Lion: his latest creation is a mini-flowerpot filled with delicious rabbit rillette, topped with crumbled rabbit black pudding and with a baby carrot stuck into the 'soil'. It tastes fantastic and looks great.

We attended this pub for lunch and the food consumed was sensuous. My starter - a goats cheese and red onion concoction - was a blessing to the palate and the fish and chips main was great too. The low ceilings were tough for a 6'4 person but they add to the allure and character of the pub! Better with... More

Stopped here on our travels for a relaxing lunch. We nearly didn't go in as from the outside it was not what we expected. We did however and we were not disappointed. Inside it is smart, clean and very well set out. The pub has lots of character and the staff were very accommodating. We ordered the corned beef hash,... More

This place is a little bit of a drive for me (from Cambridge) but I would say it's worth it. The food is very good, not too expensive but it's more than your average pub meal. The pub and surrounding grounds are lovely. It's a shame that more people don't know about it because I often find that it's not... More

This was our first visit and we were impressed by the courtesy and professionalism of the staff. The atmosphere was good: busy lunchtime. The corned beef hash was substantial: just right for a cold winter's day. My wife had calves' liver with bubble and squeak. She was pleased with her choice. I could not resist a bowl of excellent chips:... More

What a pleasant friendly place serving very good pub food. We were 3 for Sunday lunch and were made most welcome. Staff were very friendly. We had very good food, great value for money, and will be returning again for a third visit this year.

We went for dinner on a Tursday night, the pub was quite busy. we were greated by the bar men . We orderd drinks and found a table, after 20 mins we had to go to the bar to ask for a food menu as the waiter had forgotten to bring us one (but they were dealing with a flooded... More

This was our second visit to the Blue Lion. A couple of years have passed and they have managed to raise the bar further. I took the I laws out for a last minute dinner. although fully booked they managed to find an early table for us. My wife and I had the sharing platter the black pudding sausage roll... More
