Casual friendly pub

This place is a classic old Cambridgeshire village pub. Thatched, different areas up and down steps inside. It's not pretending to be anything other than a friendly local pub with decent food. 5 of us ate here; staff were very attentive, choice of food was good. Okay we hadn't booked! but there was plenty of space as it was Wednesday lunchtime. My meal was fine but wife's was well undercooked...so how can you serve fish and chips uncooked? We did point out to the waitress and to be fair she asked if we wanted it reheated!!!

I visited with my mum for Mother's Day after reading great reviews on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately - we were left somewhat disheartened by the quality and quantity of the food we chose from the set Mother's Day menu. We both had the pate and sweet/sour onion starter, followed by the roast beef dinner. We were both surprised to see that the... More

I visited here on a Tuesday evening with my partner. My first impression was that it was a lot busier than I expected for a Tues, with most tables occupied. It's a lovely old pub venue with lots of character - incl a proper fireplace - and a good choice of ales behind the bar. Foodwise, the menu was quite... More

Needed somewhere half way to meet up and chose The Blue Lion purely on TA feedback and its location. Slight issue when my sister arrived ahead of us and found no record of a booking! Hasty phone to us still on our way which we confirmed booking via email about a month ago. We arrived about 10 minutes later expecting... More

The strong point of our visit was, once again, the service: discreet but attentive and efficient. Our shared platter was OK but I was surprised the tomato salsa / relish still had the tough skins in it; burnt base to the bunny & black pudding 'pasties' didn't detract from the taste, but should have been noticed before it reached the... My husband and I were in the area and were recommended lunch at The Blue Lion, and what a great lunch it was. Non pretentious, well prepared, fresh food with great beer too. The chef clearly has a creative soul yet doesn't take away from the food at all;. I wish this was my local!!

We booked a table a few days before to ensure a table for Saturday lunchtime; we were pleased we did as the pub was very busy - a very good sign! As the corned beef hash was mentioned by a previous reviewer I decided to have that after having the wild mushroom arancini as a starter. Other members of my... More

I love the sense of humour of the chef at the Blue Lion: his latest creation is a mini-flowerpot filled with delicious rabbit rillette, topped with crumbled rabbit black pudding and with a baby carrot stuck into the 'soil'. It tastes fantastic and looks great.
