Nice atmosphere, poor food selection

I've been here a few times but since I've started eating vegan (was vegetarian before) I noticed they don't really have any mains that are vegan. There is a wide selection of non-vegetarian/non-vegan food, so if you don't really have any dietary requirements, you'll find something nice, but I... read more

Tried to eat here several times - but always full of students. Went at 4pm on Wed - plenty of tables, good beer (try the 'Intrepid IPA 6%) and proper pub fish and chips or Pie of the Day (£10 each). Beware students from 5pm onwards. Interesting décor - bit obsessed with airplanes and DNA ?

We decided to go in this pub after having seen a clip of the outside of it on the Granchester TV series. However, it was very busy. There was no where to sit, there was a large queue at the bar, which is great for the pub, but not as good for the customers! The queue at the bar wasn't... More

Interesting pub with a lot of history, but very much a tourist trap. Very crowded when we were there (it was Saturday night I suppose) but half the tables were reserved from different times. Having had to stand for half an hour, we finally got a table. We were asked to vacate our table at 7.35 (it did say it... More

Wasn't impressed. Too crowded. Had a drink outside and moved on. I wanted to see the writing on the ceiling from Watson and Crick but wasn't that easy with so many people.

The eagle is a beautiful pub with of great history. However, food and beer are not so good, service is friendly but slow and we could not bear the funky smell inside. Fortunately, the outside patio has heating.

What is it about The Eagle? OK so they keep good beer and the place is steeped in history, but what does that really say about the place? Where can I find the words to conjure what a visit to The Eagle is really about? If you are looking for trendy food and chic modernism, minimalistic decor and acres of... More

Great berr on tap and excellent food - but portions are huge. The Eagle is a great way to lace to have a pint or a meal. The back bar contains a varied panorama of comments by WwII PILOTS WRITEEN ON THE CEILINGS.
