Description: Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.

Hotfooting it over to St John's Chop House from King's College chapel, the four of us enjoyed an exceptional meal here. The service is warm and friendly - nothing is too much trouble. The meat eaters loved their pork scratchings with apple sauce as a prelude to the meal. I had the fillet of trout from the specials board -... More

Couldn't fault our waitress or the atmosphere of this place, it's a shame the same can't be said of the food. Over cooked steak and scallop (1 of the 3), under cooked roast potatoes, they took al dente to a whole new level with the Brussels - they were basically cold and raw. The only thing the did right was... More

Went with a group of friends for our annual Christmas meal. It's was £24 for two courses which is quite expensive. No drinks were included and corkage was £8!!! However, I had slow roasted leg of venison for my main which was delicious and very well cooked. But the star of my meal was the sticky toffee pudding. It was... More

Firstly let me state that this was a group booking, party of 15, so that may have lead to the loss of a point. The food was excellent, Beetroot cured Salmon, Shoulder of Venison, Christmas Pudding. All beautifully cooked and served reasonably quickly. (we had pre-booked, including menu choices). Based purely on the food, the rating would have been 5.... More

Delicious food and good atmosphere - we had a really good evening and will definitely return! It's a little bit out of the centre of town so it was less busy than the Cambridge Chop House and easier to get a table at the last minute.

This is not a pub, it is an eaterie. The atmosphere is great when it is buzzing with people. Don't go for anything but the meat dishes. The smoked duck is sublime, the venison is gorgeous and they serve the best roasts. Ladies, you will find everything that you need in the loo, including a pleasant radio station!

Nice pub, ideal for lunch. Reasonably priced 2- or 3-course lunch menu. Very good service, Quiet enough for work meeting but not without atmosphere.

Went with the family.. Last minute sat eve booking as most places were full. Did not expect much as had bypassed this restaurant many times. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. They squeezed us in to a table time slot and did say that we had a limited amount of time; but in fact it was quite ample... More
