Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.

Great wholesome food.

Went last night with my husband, sister and brother in law. We'd been to the sister restaurant in Cambridge the year before but the experience here was better. The chop house tradition is all about hearty eating, good company, fine wines and ales. You are always guaranteed a warm welcome, good service, and good solid English food. For this my third visit, I opted for the Sirloin steak (medium rare) with chunky chips. Delicious!

We had a great night at the chop house. Food was fantastic and surroundings, and especially James who looked after our table nothing was too much trouble for him very helpful. It was a pleasure to have someone who made sure we had everything we wanted. Thank you very much.

I brought a group of 6 for dinner, and everyone loved the experience. My favourite feedback was from my Brazilian colleague: "I want to spit in the face of those who told me English food sucks."

Visited St John's for the first time this weekend, excellence fine dining experience with lovely staff. Highly recommend going there. I had the venison steak, which was lovely and a more than generous helping. Elderflower and Whiskey jelly with champagne sorbet is also a must. Overall, an excellent evening, we were seated upstairs in the restaurant, which had low lighting... More

We'd heard great things about this place, which sadly didn't live up to our expectations. We were shown to our table was crammed into a corner, when we were finally asked what we'd like to drink it was another 15 minutes arriving. Menu was limited and several items were unavailable. Food was mediocre at best and was expensive for what... More

I arranged our (almost) annual Christmas works do here for the 3rd time in 4 years. The staff are always very responsive and accommodating when booking this (for around 25 people). Everyone enjoyed their meal and the staff made it an easy and enjoyable experience with food delivered quite quickly. Their online ordering form for large parties took the hassle... More

I booked a table for four people on a Sunday evening but when we arrived, the restaurant had no record of my booking. Since I had made the reservation by phone, I was a bit bemused by this. However, the lovely staff found us a table and then suggested I might have booked their sister restaurant (The Cambridge Chop House)... More
