Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.

Excellent food and ale

My wife and I together with her sister and her husband had a celebratory dinner here after our daughter graduated. We all enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. The Hophead ale was also very nice. I particularly like the dining in small rooms as it gives some intimacy. The wait staff were fine too.

Eliana was great! The food was delicious, we ordered sirloin and asparragus salad. The sauces for the steak were all great!

We've driven past this place many times so tonight we bit the bullet. Table for 2 booked at 8pm, we arrived slightly early and enjoyed a drink in the bar while we looked through the menu...where do I start, so many yumpscious choices. I went for the special - Trout, it was accompanied with pearl barley, which I can't stand... More

Had the smoked salmon as an appetizer, the lamb with vegetables, and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Everything was great. The sticky toffee pudding was incredible. Would certainly return.

Have been several times, will go again. A little pricier than some places in Cambridge, but you get the good service and nice surroundings you expect. Food is well thought out with, classic British cuisine as the mainstay, often locally sourced. Weekday set menu or suet pudding of the day are filling and good value. Steak, venison haunch, beef wellington,... More

Came after recommendations by friends who live locally a couple of Sunday's ago for the famous chop house roast. Only to be told 20 minuets after ordering that they had no roasts left, in fact the had run out of one full side of the menu by this point (Around 2.30 pm) It was just so annoying that we ordered... Enjoyed a business dinner at John's Chop House. I arrived early and immediately felt welcome by the very friendly staff, and I enjoyed a nicely made G&T at the bar before the rest of the group arrived. Th interior of the restaurant has a great ambiance though not in an old and "heavy" feeling, as the low-ceiling rooms still are... More
