Description: Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.

We have visited the St John's Chophouse a number of times and the food has always been really good. A staple restaurant when you don't want to go overboard on price, but is pretty much guaranteed to have a lovely meal. Also has a really good wine list.

The first thing I have to say is that I had the best service here - perhaps the best I have had in the UK. I was dining alone and although they had several very large groups every server who walked by made eye contact (that alone was surprising - usually they dart by with their heads down) and would... I went here with a friend, having booked a table using tripadvisor. No problems there. Seated upstairs on the most unstable table in existence. Waitress intimated that they had quite a few rickety tables like this. I ordered a duck starter (which had a lot of fat on it), the 9oz Sirloin Steak (cooked rare, although my friend who ordered... A very good restaurant with good dishes and drinks. Service is attentive and friendly, though they mixed up our orders and forgot the first course, they were quick to apologise and fix it. Perfect for an easy no frills dinner.

We visited on a saturday night and I have to say it was not as good as expected. The place was packed out and so is obviously popular, but it was a bit of a mystery why. The food was pretty good though the menu limited. The lamb I tried was very nice, though the portion was tiny. The ordered... More

Visited for their early evening meal with around 4 choices for each of 3 courses which cost £15. Quality was there, it was not a second class menu and the flavours in all their food was excellent. Wines were sensibly priced and that had some good real ales too. Great service and close to where we were staying - v... More

Booked a table for 3 at lunchtime on a Tuesday but no need as was very quiet. Good menu and specials board. Two of the party chose from the lunch menu and one from the specials board. The service was excellent and the food very good. We all had to go for the sticky toffee pudding and it didn't disappoint.... More

We love all the Cambscuisine joints. Beautiful Barnsley chop. Great draught beer. Morish Creme Brulee. Friendly, professional staff. Will be back.

This is one of the best English pub restaurants found in Cambridge. You probably have to reserve the table, however, we just walked in and we were lucky that they had a free table.
