Great British food. Delicious ale and great wine selection. Have been 5 or so times, and it's my go to Cambridge restaurant to showcase English food.
This place is a regular of mine as the food is always good. Lovely setting in a old Cambridge building and the punter pub opposite is always nice for pre-dinner drink. The service is friendly in St John's and waiters knowledgeable. The early bird menu before 7pm is really worth it as 3 courses for £15 is a bargain. This... More
This restaurant serves good English food with a modern twist. I had my first pint of ale ever to start with from a local brewery; a Hophead. This was followed by mackerel pate, and a suet pudding with beef and stilton as main course, which was quite a heavy dish. So we shared a burned cream for dessert. The staff... More
After a mix up over the booking time (entirely my fault) we sat down to a wonderful experience. The service was attentive and pleasant, the food was tasty and well presented down to the candle on the sweet course for Birthday Boy, the wine superb as was the port we finished the night of with! Will definitely come again and... More
We were visiting a young friend who is in a doctoral program at Cambridge, and she suggested St. John's for dinner. A great choice! All of our meals were excellent (a fish pie, stuffed chicken breast, and a vegetarian entree), and it was a very good value. Good service, too; pleasant atmosphere - classic but not stuffy. And, absolutely, positively... More
We have eaten here twice in one year. Immediately you are greeted warmly and the service throughout from everyone is wonderful. On both occasions some of us have had sirloin steaks and some had something from the specials board. This time 3 of us had haunch of venison - it was really really good! We are told that the Cambridge... More
I visited St Johns Chop House with a group of colleagues as a second choice - the sister restaurant Cambridge Chop House couldn't accommodate our numbers. Food-wise, we were not disappointed - I started with a deep fried haggis which was delicious followed by an excellent calfs liver (maybe not to everyone's taste) but with my colleagues we will have... First time to this great Cambridge restaurant and it didn't disappoint. Great food; great drinks; great service. Cannot fault it - and even better with the added bonus of a 10% University staff discount Mon-Fri!
Ate dinner with the wedding party and out of town guests and family. Food was excellent. I had the special which was the salmon with a lemon cream sauce....Devine! I asked for the sauce recipe since it was the best sauce I have ever had with salmon.
