Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.

British food does not get any better than this – and washed down with genuine real ale, or even better, genuine award-winning English wine ("three squirrels" ) - what could be better? I went with a large group of people, and had a marvelous asparagus salad, Hake as a main course, and amazing English cheeses for dessert ... !

Excellent meal and service. We had a sharing starter and main which was different and found the menu varied with lots of unusual dishes. Great pudding and wine lost also.

I ate here tonight as a casual walk in without booking as it was early evening but already starting to get busy, and was warmly greeted at the bar and shown to a table quickly . The menu is interesting and varied, with a specials board, I chose haunch of Venison which was delicious and definitely recommend. The service is... More

We've driven past this place many times so tonight we bit the bullet. Table for 2 booked at 8pm, we arrived slightly early and enjoyed a drink in the bar while we looked through the menu...where do I start, so many yumpscious choices. I went for the special - Trout, it was accompanied with pearl barley, which I can't stand... More

Had the smoked salmon as an appetizer, the lamb with vegetables, and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Everything was great. The sticky toffee pudding was incredible. Would certainly return.

Have been several times, will go again. A little pricier than some places in Cambridge, but you get the good service and nice surroundings you expect. Food is well thought out with, classic British cuisine as the mainstay, often locally sourced. Weekday set menu or suet pudding of the day are filling and good value. Steak, venison haunch, beef wellington,... More
