Description: Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.

Just enjoyed a really good lunch at this friendly restaurant. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful and the food was excellent. We chose all three courses from the set menu, and all the dishes were very good ...special mention goes to all three of my choices: terrine starter, followed by pork loin, rounded off with sticky toffee pudding... Excellent food, excellent service, excellent Ales ... and I want more! I can see I shall have to come back time and again to work my way through this excellent menu. Truly something for everyone - even a vegetarian. The only problem is that the menu is changed every three months, which means I am going to miss some utterly... More

I was recommended this restaurant by Finches Bed & Breakfast which is close by where I was staying and I wasn't disappointed. I opted for the special menu served up to 19.00 hrs which proved to be excellent value at £15.95 for 3 courses. Service was first class and all washed down with two pints of real ale. I will... First visit to one of the Cambs Cuisine places and extremely happy. A large group of us were celebrating a friends birthday and the service was excellent. The females in the group had salmon Wellington which went down very well. The males of the group shared a lamb shoulder and venison shoulder, accompanied by plenty of potatoes and veg. Fantastically... More

Having booked Christmas lunch some time ago , we were very much looking forward to it. No disappointments , the warm welcome, ambience and superb food made for a Loverly Christmas lunch. One of the jewels of Cambridge .

Hotfooting it over to St John's Chop House from King's College chapel, the four of us enjoyed an exceptional meal here. The service is warm and friendly - nothing is too much trouble. The meat eaters loved their pork scratchings with apple sauce as a prelude to the meal. I had the fillet of trout from the specials board -... More

Couldn't fault our waitress or the atmosphere of this place, it's a shame the same can't be said of the food. Over cooked steak and scallop (1 of the 3), under cooked roast potatoes, they took al dente to a whole new level with the Brussels - they were basically cold and raw. The only thing the did right was... More

Went with a group of friends for our annual Christmas meal. It's was £24 for two courses which is quite expensive. No drinks were included and corkage was £8!!! However, I had slow roasted leg of venison for my main which was delicious and very well cooked. But the star of my meal was the sticky toffee pudding. It was... More

Firstly let me state that this was a group booking, party of 15, so that may have lead to the loss of a point. The food was excellent, Beetroot cured Salmon, Shoulder of Venison, Christmas Pudding. All beautifully cooked and served reasonably quickly. (we had pre-booked, including menu choices). Based purely on the food, the rating would have been 5.... More

Delicious food and good atmosphere - we had a really good evening and will definitely return! It's a little bit out of the centre of town so it was less busy than the Cambridge Chop House and easier to get a table at the last minute.
