Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.

Visited here as a family group of eight including two children on a Saturday evening to celebrate my husband's 70th Birthday. I advise you book ahead to have a choice of times. We have eaten here several times and this was the first time we left disappointed with the food. Potted venison consisted of a sliver of meat in a sweet sickly sauce. Salmon Wellington served with cold broccoli and carrots (no potatoes or chips). Haunch of venison requested rare and presented well done. Rhubarb and apple crumble topping dry and the... More

We came here for our wedding anniversary dinner and the whole experience was the best we have had in Cambridge so far. The speciality is delicious meat! Service fantastic (1st class) and the food was soooooo tasty/filling/value for money. We will definately be back - maybe a yearly tradition from now on?!

We'd heard about the St John's Chop House when we visited their sister restaurant the Tickell Arms at Whittlesford, which is just as well as it's slightly off the beaten track so we probably wouldn't have found it otherwise. The restaurant is set in a beautiful old building, the dining rooms are cosy and although it wasn't busy when we... More

My husband and I enjoyed a leisurely and well attended lunch today. My 9oz rare steak was cooked beautifully, while the steak suet pudding my husband enjoyed was also very well cooked and a good portion size. My chips were lovely, as were the mushrooms and the brandy and tarragon sauce was to die for. We shared a starter blue... More

I've heard good things about St Johns chop house so when looking for somewhere to have Sunday lunch at around 3pm we took a punt and visited. I was very impressed by the warm welcome and we were shown to our seats and informed about the specials and the roasts including how the meat is cooked and served which was... More

Went here after visiting 2 other restaurants in Cambridge the 2 nights before and this had a more pub feel and seems a little more expensive but the food was fine and the venison was for 2 and there was enough for 4 actually. It was definitely tasty and well done.

After trawling around Cambridge looking to find a venue for my Daughters 21st birthday celebration, I was pointed in the direction of the Cambridge Chop House. Unfortunately they couldn't accommodate 20 odd guests in a single room but recommended their sister restaurant St Johns Chop House. I'm so glad they did. What a fantastic venue for a meal and celebration.... More
