Why why do hotels try and run restaurants they try to be all things and they can't hotel guests and restaurant diners are two different clients and it's a shame the staff are lovely attentive and I can't praise them enough but the food overrated flavours that don't gel my advice stop trying to hard its a shame !

I had a 2 course meal here with my partner on 29/03/14. He had the salmon to start which was delicious and I had mushroom and poached egg on toast which I was very happy with. His steak main looked perfect and my mullet main was gorgeous, loved the champagne sauce! The service was very good as they met your... More

I am so pleased to have found R17. I have eaten in several places in Cambridge but have often found them to be either overpriced or slightly disappointing. That's why it's so nice to have discovered R17. The food here is amazing and certainly worth every penny (if not more). I had the ham hock terrine to start with and... More

All the good points from previous reviews are accurate. The quality of the food on the fixed price menu is high, the menu is varied and the wine prices are not too high. Add in the charming (if a little unfinished) service by the 2 charming senoritas on the evening we ate, plus a very pleasant ambiance and you have... More

Nice size restaurant, very attentative and friendly staff. There is only a fixed price menu but the choices are fine and price very reasonable (£21.95 for 3 courses). The food was excellent, between us favorites were the ham hock terrine stater, and for the main the duck and fillet steaks were beautiful, and for those who had a third course,... More

Came for a day trip, resteraunt chosen because of trip advisor. 3 course meal £22.00 Average wine around £22.00 Lovely setting in the hotel which would be great to stay in given the surroundings. First course was ham hock and the mushroom on toast. Both beautifully presented and flavours were great, very impressed and a great start to the evening.... More

The food menu is small, and some would say the portions were too, but it is very beautifully presented. I can recommend the fillet steak with triple cooked chips. Drinks a little pricey. A two course menu is £23 per person. Seating is comfortable not hard seats!!

There was a disparate group go folks from work attending a course in Cambridge. We were all staying in the University Arms and decided to give the R17 restaurant a try. Initially, accents seemed to be getting misunderstood, but then we were all Scottish. Once orders were taken and the food started to arrive, things looked promising. Food wise I... More

Me and partner love eating out in Cambridge, and boy did we love this place. We booked as it reviews so well and it deserves to be no1 in Cambridge it was that good. You often find a place that excels in a certain course but R17 excelled in all 3 courses , the British beef steak main we had... More

Very nice food: tasty and very well-presented. Nice atmosphere and surrounding (classical music, oil paintings). The staff were friendly and welcoming, and knowledgeable about the wines. We asked if we could have dessert wine by the glass (the menu only mentions 1 type per bottle). We were initially told "sorry, no, there isn't any". Then a few minutes later one... More
