Description: Bell's Diner and Bar Rooms in the latest incarnation of Bristol's beloved...
Bell's Diner and Bar Rooms in the latest incarnation of Bristol's beloved Bell's Diner, established here in 1976. The new team has its roots in Rocinantes and Quartier Vert and brings the same relaxed enthusiasm for getting knees under a table to eat, drink and have a good time. Our food is best described as Modern Mediterranean and is inspired by the robust, flavoursome cooking of Spain, North Africa, Italy and France in which top quality ingredients are treated simply and put together in clever combinations. Our dishes are designed for sharing and you can eat as little or as much as you want; prop up our bar with a little bit of something lovely or pull up a chair and eat like a king (or queen). Our drinks list has been carefully chosen to suit our food and our personality. As well as unusual grape varietals from interesting young producers, we have some classic wines from famously good winemakers. We put a modest cash margin on our prices rather than the usual restaurant mark-up, so all of them offer incredible value for money. We also have a small but perfectly formed list of craft beers, ciders and soft drinks from some of the best producers around.

Seriously Impressed

Some of the best food I've ever had, anywhere. Gives Moro a serious run for its money. Service was relaxed but highly attentive. Absolutely recommend to anyone who loves exciting food, great wine and fabulous service. Intersting neighbourhood too.

Very disappointed. The food was good but only tapas to share. Do not expect to feel satisfied unless you spend a lot. The wine prices are extortionate and the wine is very average. Waiters very vague about prices. Definitely will not be going to Bells Diner again as there are plenty of other tapas bars in Bristol serving better and... More

Bell's Diner is local to me and I have gone a few times now. The menu is seasonal so I try to go whenever I know the menu is due to change. I've never been disappointed in the food here. The idea is to order a few small plates off the menu so, its a great way to be able... More

It was my first time so I can't compare the food before they changed the style but I really enjoyed every dish I had, especially squid salad and chicken liver pate. I would love to go back soon.

Nicely-decorated restaurant in an old, probably turn of the twentieth century building in trendy Montpelier. Friendly blue-painted timber wall-panelling and nice old tables and chairs, with proper table cloths, not too close together. The reviewer was nursing a cold, so wasn't too hungry, but nevertheless enjoyed various tapas options, including Bell's Pickles, crab coquettas, the grilled squid and various salads.... More

Not sure what all these negative reviews are about, I guess you just can't please some people. We ate lunch here today and I can't fault anything: the food was delicious, service impeccable and prosecco on tap. Can't wait to go back.

I've eaten here many times over 20 years. It's always been fantastic until now. A change of ownership and direction has not been successful, I fear. Small plates the order of the day (as in many restaurants at the moment) but the quality was so poor. Salt cod fritters with enough added salt to make you wince, a dreadful fish... More

23 years later my Wife and I decided to re-visit the scene of our first date, not sure why we have not been back in all that time as it was very pleasant back then. The format has changed now with the emphasis very much on the Tapas/small plate scenario rather than the traditional 3 courses. Started with the Cod... More

I came here with my partner and it certainly is a cosy little place with a great atmosphere. We were informed that the menu is mainly small plates and usually people order two or three each or share them. I like this kind of thing but unfortunately there were not many vegetarian options. I eat some fish but quite a... More

Brought the gooble girl here for some romantic gooble gobbles and we were both very impressed! Lovely decor and ambience, great wine list - friendly, attentive service. The food: delicious; high quality, fresh ingredients and priced very well at that ... interesting tapas-style format to the menu which worked for us. Good veggy selection for the gooble girl too. We... More
