Description: Bell's Diner and Bar Rooms in the latest incarnation of Bristol's beloved Bell's Diner, established here in 1976. The new team has its roots in Rocinantes and Quartier Vert and brings the same relaxed enthusiasm for getting knees under a table to eat, drink and have a good time. Our food is best described as Modern Mediterranean and is inspired by the robust, flavoursome cooking of Spain, North Africa, Italy and France in which top quality ingredients are treated simply and put together in clever combinations. Our dishes are designed for sharing and you can eat as little or as much as you want; prop up our bar with a little bit of something lovely or pull up a chair and eat like a king (or queen). Our drinks list has been carefully chosen to suit our food and our personality. As well as unusual grape varietals from interesting young producers, we have some classic wines from famously good winemakers. We put a modest cash margin on our prices rather than the usual restaurant mark-up, so all of them offer incredible value for money. We also have a small but perfectly formed list of craft beers, ciders and soft drinks from some of the best producers around.

First let me start with the good. The restaurant is in a great location and is beautifully laid out with great music and a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, we came to eat rather than just look. Bell's Diner was highly recommended by friends, which comes as a surprise after our experience. We ordered iberico sausage and salt cod fritters for a... More

Having been marched round Bristol for what seemed like hours, with sore feet and an aching back, we came across Bell's Diner and popped in for a sit down. The first thing I noticed was the wine special for the day, a real, honest to goodness, full bodied semi sparkling red Lambrusco. It takes a brave person to put that... More

Very hard to find any sort of fault in Bells Diner as the food was exceptional, the service fantastic, the atmosphere lovely and the wine list one of the best, most carefully thought out I've seen in a long time. All in all a truly great experience. I can't wait to return!!

We just popped into Bells for lunch whilst out and about. I had heard a few things about this place, so thought it was time to try it. What an interesting place! Very nice setting inside, and staff were very friendly as we arrived. The lunches are small tasting dishes, tapas style. I will warn you, they are small! However,... More

Visited for 50th birthday evening, have been coming here on and off since late 80s but this was the first time since the current team moved in. Now mainly a small plates kind of place. We had a number of these and they were bloody great - also very interesting wine list with good choice by the bottle which allowed... More

Having wandered through Stokes Croft on many occasions, we have never had cause to deviate from the main thoroughfare into the back streets. As discovered last weekend when we lunched at Bells Diner, this is a total shame as we found ourselves off of Picton Street wandering through a fantastic little area with its colourful houses, independent traders, street traders,... Really enjoyed dinner at this restaurant, a pleasing combination of great food, great wine and friendly, helpful and attentive service. These guys know how to cook good quality small plates of food, ideal for trying new and different flavours whilst also enjoying some old favourites. The service is relaxed, friendly and knowledgable, a perfect approach to ensure a quality evening... More

The restaurant is quirky, well managed and responsive, The somewhat rather run down look provided a rather relaxed atmosphere. The food was tapas style with some very good flavours.Fish, especially the scallops were cooked to perfection. Bread was average and could have been better given the quality you find in restaurants and speciality shops these days. Butter salted and I... More

Having stopped off in Bristol just to revisit Bell's Diner from 6 years ago we where disappointed. Calf cheeks and scallops were very good, starters average. Have to say staff were excellent and very attentive, wine menu good. Guess am just disappointed with the fine dining experience from the past. This is now a different restaurant offerering tapas at a... More

I had never visited this place in it's previous incarnations but had heard a variety of things about it. Having now been twice and had fantastic food each time it is now my firm fave in Bristol. Love the relaxed and quirky atmosphere and the sharing plates are always packed with exciting flavours.
