Description: Bell's Diner and Bar Rooms in the latest incarnation of Bristol's beloved...
Bell's Diner and Bar Rooms in the latest incarnation of Bristol's beloved Bell's Diner, established here in 1976. The new team has its roots in Rocinantes and Quartier Vert and brings the same relaxed enthusiasm for getting knees under a table to eat, drink and have a good time. Our food is best described as Modern Mediterranean and is inspired by the robust, flavoursome cooking of Spain, North Africa, Italy and France in which top quality ingredients are treated simply and put together in clever combinations. Our dishes are designed for sharing and you can eat as little or as much as you want; prop up our bar with a little bit of something lovely or pull up a chair and eat like a king (or queen). Our drinks list has been carefully chosen to suit our food and our personality. As well as unusual grape varietals from interesting young producers, we have some classic wines from famously good winemakers. We put a modest cash margin on our prices rather than the usual restaurant mark-up, so all of them offer incredible value for money. We also have a small but perfectly formed list of craft beers, ciders and soft drinks from some of the best producers around.

Great tapas

Really delicious array of plates. Goats cheese, stuffed peppers and cheesecake were standpoints. Really massive drinks list, carefully crafted and again, delish. Fantastic food! Really tasty tapas style dishes, great wine list and excellent service. You will need to book. If you don't know Bristol, you may think you have gone to the wrong end of town, but you will not be disappointed. Went with top foodie friends and everyone was very happy!

Even after the Salt Cod Fritters the Albondigas (meatballs) were spectacularly over-salted-and I am a salt addict-adding it to everything. They were beautiful flavoured otherwise which is how I ended up eating them (with a lot of water) before I complained. I was offered a replacement but was strangely full (the sourdough was delicious) so suggested some icecream instead. The... More

We had read rave reviews on this place and loved the sound of the menu. On arrival we loved the area, the set up, the atmosphere: everything felt right. We felt excited by the menu, and when the dishes came they looked great. But they only tasted

Really delicious array of plates. Goats cheese, stuffed peppers and cheesecake were standpoints. Really massive drinks list, carefully crafted and again, delish. Service was really intensely nice..but we were largely ignored for long periods of time too. Really packed when we rocked up, we were lucky to be seated at all. Overall though a great night.

What a great lunch. We had delicious prosecco (on tap!) and superb, good value, burgundian style Spanish chardonnay. We would come back for the felafel alone which was fantastically herby and accompanied by a lovely tahini sauce. We also had super fresh mackerel and cornish clams with the most waxy of potatoes. We ordered dessert and loved the creamy rhubarb... More

Love this place. Food is simple but delicious. Home made sourdough is excellent. Go for the lunch or early evening deal and its a bargain.

Tucked away in a little street in St Pauls this was an unexpected delight. At lunchtime they do a sort of tapas menu - you can choose three items and a glass of wine for £15. Free bread and tap water is delivered without asking (why can't they all do that?). I had falafel, then morcilla (Spanish black pudding) and... More

Fabulous British-tapas style food, all beautifully presented in a slightly off-beat (ie. interesting and quirky) setting. The flavour combinations were stunning - despite a life-long aversion to beetroot I loved the char-grilled mackerel with beetroot and blood orange. Not cheap, but the quality of the ingredients and the presentation didn't make it a rip-off either. A fabulous meal, and a... More

We called in advance to check that they catered for vegetarians. However, all but one 'vegetarian' dish included cheese and the restaurant were only able to say that the cheese was not vegetarian or they did not know. I think there were about 6 cheeses across the menu the night we went so not to have at least one that... More

We had some family visiting, and booked here for dinner. Wasn't sure what to expect but had heard good things. We decided to order 2 small dishes each and share as they came out. They were really helpful in picking from the menu, and loads of choice for my wheat intolerance. I had the artichoke salad and lamb shank peppers.... More
