Description: Bell's Diner and Bar Rooms in the latest incarnation of Bristol's beloved...
Bell's Diner and Bar Rooms in the latest incarnation of Bristol's beloved Bell's Diner, established here in 1976. The new team has its roots in Rocinantes and Quartier Vert and brings the same relaxed enthusiasm for getting knees under a table to eat, drink and have a good time. Our food is best described as Modern Mediterranean and is inspired by the robust, flavoursome cooking of Spain, North Africa, Italy and France in which top quality ingredients are treated simply and put together in clever combinations. Our dishes are designed for sharing and you can eat as little or as much as you want; prop up our bar with a little bit of something lovely or pull up a chair and eat like a king (or queen). Our drinks list has been carefully chosen to suit our food and our personality. As well as unusual grape varietals from interesting young producers, we have some classic wines from famously good winemakers. We put a modest cash margin on our prices rather than the usual restaurant mark-up, so all of them offer incredible value for money. We also have a small but perfectly formed list of craft beers, ciders and soft drinks from some of the best producers around.

Cool atmosphere and beat food

This relaxed restaurant in the heart of Montpelier, Bristol UK, serves a great variety of food with an oriental/Middle East flavour. The dishes are generous, the waiters very helpful and generous, wine and drinks most agreeable. To be re-visited next time we are in town!

This is probably my third visit, and although the food was lovely, the service was very poor. The staff just appeared to be absent and unwelcoming. It took ages to get our bill and when I finally got up to ask, it took ages for someone to administer the payment. When the bill was collected the person smelt of cigarettes.... More

Great atmosphere, relaxed, laid back environment. Faultless, charming service. Small plates to share - looked good, tasted good. Great selection of wines, beers and other drinks. It won't be everybody's cup of tea but that's their loss. Three people well fed and watered for less than £100. Love it.

What a place. No wonder it's so highly regarded, and has been constantly evolving throughout a long and varied history - read the national press. In it's present state of evolution it's a delight. Superbly affable and knowledgeable front of house staff happy to recommend dishes from a menu that's hard to choose from. There are lots of small dishes... More

Lovely. We had a super anniversary meal here in mid-June. Kind and welcoming staff, delicious food, laid-back atmosphere. Reasonable and well-thought-through wine list. Marvellous.

We dined here with a group and were forced into their group menu rather than being allowed the opportunity to order from the a la carte menu and it turned out that we were also overcharged for the privilege. The first major issue is that if a customer asks to order from a different menu they should be given the... More

Food was fab, ordered entire menu in the end as there were 6 of us. Very tapas thus rather salty but very delicious. The wine was also wonderful- The wine list is a little different and cakes wine varieties from different parts of the work rather than the generics of france and italy. As mains were such a hit we... We were visiting Bristol and tried Bell's on our host recommendations. We went on a Monday night with a 3 tapas and a glass of wine for £15 special. The tapas were excellent especially the clam and mussles. Puddings were great although we were sorry that thye didn't have the toasted marshmellow ice cream A must if you are in... More

Went here on recommendation. Not disappointed at all. Really lovely space, quite shabby chiccy. The waitress suggested perhaps chosing six tapas for three, but we ignored that and ordered loads more. Great salted cod fritters, so my guests informed me, stunning chicken wing pinchos, albondigas better than anything I've ever tasted in Spain, yummy falafel and star turn for me... More

Bell’s Diner is like an old friend you meet up with occasionally; it is invariably a pleasure to reacquaint yourself with what has changed in the years, but you retain a strong affection for the memories and experiences you have had shared. My most recent visit was an endearing mixture of reflections on the same décor I remember from my... More
