good food

Its NC at it's finest. Beautiful flavours, knowledgable staff. Reliably good, but some obscure things on the menu and be prepared to spend a lot.

This is a local's, local. Taverna-style dining with a thoughtful menu; by that I mean the menu is made up of dishes you might expect to find in a more upscale, fine-dining establishment. However, the setting is informal. The wine list is decent. I gather the proprietor's partner is in the wine trade which is no doubt a useful alliance... More

Had a lovely relaxed Saturday luncheon with two other fellows. We seek out places that look interesting and Flinty Red certainly is. Good stuff all the way through the menu. Excellent and attentive service from Sarah who run the front of house singlehandedly …(for those who commented on the attitude of the waiter i assume this may have something to... More

Had a lovely relaxed lunch, food was very good - in particular the gnocchi with ox cheek ragu was a plate of rich meaty goodness, if slightly small portion (or I'm just greedy). Service was lovely, attentive, relaxed and very welcoming. Looking forward to returning.

We visited Flinty Red recently for the first time, we were astounded by the rudeness and condescending attitude of the waiter. Decided to leave. Maybe this was a one off, I will never go back to find out!

My Husband chose Flinty Red for his tapas birthday meal. Friends of ours highly recommended it and knew we were regulars to the Gurnards Head and have travelled extensively around Spain so were sure this place would 'tick the boxes' and 'rock our world'. I booked a table for Saturday 21st, all good. On Friday lunch time while out on... More

Upon arrival, we were 'greeted' by a rather unenthusiastic waitress who couldn't quite manage a smile. After selecting our table she approached us with a menu with no explanation as to the small/large plate format, whether it was tapas style etc. She later returned ready to take our drinks order, to my surprise she actually folded her arms at one... This restaurant has been on my list of places to try for quite some time. Tap water and bread arrived without asking (excellent). I had a starter of pork rillettes, then a small plate of succulent onglet with a little salad - both very tasty. An espresso was made with too much water, but that is quite normal for England.... Very knowledgeable and extremely attentive staff. It's clear the staff take a real interest in the food they serve and convey that enthusiasm in their descriptions. The food was excellent - we had 3 courses each and were impressed with them all. We got to try some unique cuts and recipes that you just don't find elsewhere. Really nice relaxed... More

We ate with good friends and enjoyed a diverse range of apéritifs, relying on the expert knowledge of our sommelier, followed by a wonderful selection of tapas plates - prawns and butter beans, pork rillette, deep fried chick pea batter, kid meatballs - whilst we chatted, and then moving on to a large plate each, accompanied by an excellent tempranillo....
