Inconsistent, but brilliant at times

Excellent service and a lovely glass of Merlot. We order 6 small dishes . The fig & mozarella & the mackerel/courgette in dill aioli were superb. The chorizo was good, quail was excellent but polenta with it had no flavour. The octopus and the fried panisse were very disappointing. lacked flavour... read more

We went to Flinty Red to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were definitely not disappointed. From the welcome on arrival to the creme brulee and everything in between, it was exactly what we've been looking for. The mozzarella and peach salad was amazing as was the wine that was recommended. We will be back!

I went to flinty red with some friends and had a really good night. As there were 6 of us and all were willing to share the food we were able to try pretty much everything off the menu. We had a vegetarian in the group but there was plenty for her as well. The only thing I would say... More

Had our first visit to Flinty Red last week, and just so sorry not to have discovered it before. From the very warm welcome, to the food, to the wine selection, to the overall service, everything was just great. The food is "different" (in a good way!), innovative and with interesting combinations without being too way out. In most instances... More

I was recommended Flinty Reds by a barman in Bristol whilst I was travelling through in April. It was on a list of 6 restaurants he gave me and I was drawn to it by some of the Trip Advisor reviews and that it sounded a little bit out of the ordinary in terms of its choice of meats and... More

Its NC at it's finest. Beautiful flavours, knowledgable staff. Reliably good, but some obscure things on the menu and be prepared to spend a lot.

This is a local's, local. Taverna-style dining with a thoughtful menu; by that I mean the menu is made up of dishes you might expect to find in a more upscale, fine-dining establishment. However, the setting is informal. The wine list is decent. I gather the proprietor's partner is in the wine trade which is no doubt a useful alliance... More

Had a lovely relaxed Saturday luncheon with two other fellows. We seek out places that look interesting and Flinty Red certainly is. Good stuff all the way through the menu. Excellent and attentive service from Sarah who run the front of house singlehandedly …(for those who commented on the attitude of the waiter i assume this may have something to... More

Had a lovely relaxed lunch, food was very good - in particular the gnocchi with ox cheek ragu was a plate of rich meaty goodness, if slightly small portion (or I'm just greedy). Service was lovely, attentive, relaxed and very welcoming. Looking forward to returning.
