Description: On the corner of St Lukes Road sits The Star and Dove – a smart, welcoming pub and a favourite among Bristol’s young and trendy locals. Downstairs, there are two separate bar areas where you can lounge around on comfy sofas; while upstairs in the restaurant, the parquet floors, royal blue walls and huge windows create a bright and airy space. There are separate menus too, with the bar menu offering classic pub grub and the restaurant menu serving up top-class European cuisine. As if that wasn’t enough, the kitchen produces a seasonal tasting menu on the first Thursday of every month. There’s a great outside space, a concise wine list and a good selection of draught lagers – what more could you ask for?

I've been to a few functions at The Star and Dove which is a very ordinary looking Bristol 'boozer'. As it has developed a reputation for serving interesting food, the idea of going for a Sunday lunch was something I was looking forward to. I ordered the pressed chicken thigh (£6.00+?) for starters. It wasn't unpleasant, however the portion size... More

The location and space is lovely, the staff appeared aloof and cold but once the ice was broken they warmed up a little. I was surprised to see such a complicated Sunday lunch menu, there was no option for a traditional roast, only pretentious variations of a roast. I ordered the lamb, it was a very small portion served on... More

We recently visited our daughter who had just moved into the area and decided to go out for lunch somewhere. The S&D came up on her search for local hostelries, so we thought we would give it a try. We had lunch sat in the "beer garden", which had a lot of plants on display for sale, and it was... More

If you are looking for a venue for a birthday or a party - this is most definitely not the place to go! We hired an area of the pub for a 30th birthday celebration and were under the impression that the room was ours. Whilst we didn’t pay the £150 fee, we were told (and assured by the manageress)... A unique pub / gastro pub. Brilliantly different to the norm inside, traditional bar and some great "side rooms" / lounges. Thought the courtyard and the ability to have blankets was a nice touch. Excellent selection of proper beers and ciders. Eat in the restaurant, what a concept - traditional English food c1700, with a modern twist. The boiled onions... More

Booked a table for 8. They were apologetic as the restaurant upstairs was being renovated. However downstairs was great, with a good atmosphere. The food is a modern take on old recipes. Staff were happy to explain. The description on the menu takes some getting used to, but the food delivered was wonderful. Some beautiful and unusual flavours which really... More

This pub is so great. The food is reliably delicious and innovative - fantastic soft-boiled scotch eggs and sausage rolls as bar snacks, a sort of small plates menu, and a great restaurant area too. The menu is so crazily unique - they take a recipe book from say 400 years ago, and make those dishes. So you get to... More

I recently moved to the area and was very much looking forward to trying out this pub for Sunday lunch - several friends and colleagues have been here and said was excellent. The atmosphere was great, and the music room was lovely with a fantastic live band performing. We were also received very well by the guys behind the bar,... More

Yes went to star a dove tonight for a beer so not eating hence medium ratings given as the only food consumed was a scotch egg I was convinced this was surrounded by tuna my mate asked barman and was advised this was not the case and that it was pork belly... Still found this hard to believe as smelt... More

I love this place nowadays. The food is refreshingly distinctive but magnificent. The wine is well chosen, beer well-kept. It's like a little bit of London Fields in Totterdown. Dog and child friendly, attentive passionate service, great choice, good taste, luxurious treats for the mouth in the relaxed atmosphere of a shabby-chic boozer.
