Great food in the heart of Wells

Top quality home cooked food served with a smile. We had dinner before heading out on the Bowron Lakes Circuit. Ribs were amongst the best I've had. Great deserts and coffee. Service was super friendly and we even got tips for our canoe trip.

our group of 9 visited wells with our motorbikes and had the ribs menu with veggies medley and Caesar salad for lunch at the bear's paw. the owners opened the restaurant just for us. food and service was excellent and price was fair.

We both ordered the individual bison meatloaf, and were disappointed, since we found the meatloaf very dry / almost completely lacking flavour. Basmati rice (again dry) accompanied, as well as a cabbage / kale slaw dressed with a balsamic emulsion that imparted an odd taste, when combined with vegetables such as cabbage / kale. This disappointing meal was somewhat redeemed... More

Well....I'll say that's disappointing...even more so for us! Buffalo is a lean meat and new to our menu, so I see that we missed the mark when we made that nights batch. We've had some very nice feedback about the Buffalo, and our tomato curry we serve with it. Co-incidently, Cheryl and I also ate from that same batch, at... More

We only purchased muffins for breakfast from here as the restaurant itself was closed due to some staff shortages but the muffins were very dry and very stale. the owner is friendly and knowledgeable about the area but the restaurant does not seem to be his focus or his passion. Kind of a "take it or leave it" attitude.

It doesn't actually sound like you ate at the Bear's Paw Cafe during your stay in Wells since you describe eating dinner at two other restaurants during your two night stay. Perhaps when we met in the am, at the Frog, I hadn't had my coffee yet, since most people describe us as over-the-top focused and passionate about our businesses!!... More

This small restaurant in Wells just before the historic town of Barkerville served the best food on our one week Gold Rush Trail trip. Our party of 5 had various meals (salmon, ribs and bison) including dessert and some local micro brew beers and everything from beginning to end was absolutely delicious. Great food, fantastic staff and family friendly environment.... More

Thanks for your kind words and compliment about your trip. Turning out a wide variety of food from our small kitchen is a challenge, but we are happy to say that many people make the same comment about their dinner at the Paw being the highlight of the 'eating' portion of their trip! See you again. More

The first night we were in Wells we wanted to have dinner here, however it was closed: they were understaffed. The owners were sitting outside and offered us to lend their "quadrucycle" (bicycle with 4 wheels...) to ride to the taco joint nearby. How kind of them! We had fun riding the bicycle and the next evening we had dinner... More

Stopped in at the Bear's Paw after not finding any restaurants at Bowron Lake. We are happy we did. We had the ribs which were very good and reasonably priced. After our main course we indulged in the homemade carrot cake which was a different take on an old favourite...delicious, moist, and extra good with whipped cream. We asked for... More

Dave and Cheryl are 2 of the most hospitable friendly people you will ever meet. Warm and welcoming, with a wealth of local knowledge. And excellent place to sit and dine, and enjoy local Wells life! Don't forget to stop next door at the Frog on the Bog for unique gifts and apparel. You will not regret your stop here!

We ate here on the evening of 23rd Sept and had a cracking meal. The curry was wonderful and really tasty - full of flavor. The starter of pitta bread and dip was wonderful too. It was a real treat to have a great meal when we had been camping and canoeing for the previous four days. The owners were... More

Very special place to eat in the very special place called Wells.. Wells is a little village outside Barkerville and reflects - in a very special way - the vibes of Barkerville but then transferred to the 21th century.. The food in the BPC is outstanding and the sphere is as well..
